Really superb views all round. Gets unbelievably busy at sunset. Try sunrise for a less busy experience. The ruins are just that but the view makes the trip worthwhile

This is a good spot to get some nice photos. Its only small so expect a lot of people doing the same as you.

Byzantine cartel ruins is the place to see the sunset in Oia. Mind you it gets very crowded. As the ruins are on a hill you have magnificent views over the building hanging on the ridge. If you are coming for the sunset, you'd better be early: you cannot get in or out from the ruins before sun has set.... More

While everyone enjoys the sunsets from the mansion and flock there each evening, be sure to wake up early to see the sunrise from the mansion. Peaceful and sublime!

We were lucky to get there early in the afternoon and it was not lot of people there. Castle itself is nothing special but the view is really something special - one of the best views in the world. You could make some really fantastic photos of Oia's windmills.

We were so looking forward to our cruise stop at Santorini but found we spent most of our short stop in transportation (tender to dock, cable car, local bus to Oia, took a bunch of outstanding photos, local bus back to Fira, long line for cable car, tender back to ship). Besides taking some iconic photos and having lunch, there... More

One of the most romantic place in Santorini. Perfect view of sunset and Oia. Vintage pace and full of history.

It was scorching hot when we were in Santorini... everywhere. We would dash from shady spot to shady spot and linger in areas where there was a breeze. As soon as we got onto the ruins though, it was cool & breezy, almost refreshing! That, along with amazing views and the old man playing a traditional guitar in the corner,... More

Such a shame that better care has not been provided for these ruins. At a great position for pictures, but the ruins themselves offer nothing else. We went on a hot and crowded day - would suggest instead to walk out of Oia or along one of the side streets/alleys for a better picture.
