Amazing place to visit. The steps to reach it are located at the very end of Oia, next to the Venitian Fort. Fair warning, it's a steep hill with about 260 steps but you can get a taxi from anywhere in Oia (should be €15).

There are 3 or 4 restaurants in the bay with great reputations but be prepared to pay big money. You won't see the sunset from here but i would still highly recommended going to eat here at sunset!

For those who like to swim, i would highly recommend a small swimming spot about 10 mins from the bay, accessible by a tricky path around the cliff.

It took a long hike down hundreds of stair steps from Oia. We had lunch at a pricey restaurant on the beach, then took a hike along the seashore to a place where people were swimming and diving. The water was so clear. It's a grand view to look up the cliff where Oia is. Instead of taking a donkey ride up, we called a cab back to Oia.

We got to Oia from the island of Therassia, there are three ferries every day connecting Thirassia Principal port to Oia.
The village is beautiful, there is a lot of fish restaurants along the bay and up in the city too.
The stairs to go up is quite long but not impossible (10 minutes walk) or you can take a donkey (if you can, don't), but it's worth it for the view.
If your stay is in Santorini you can go to Oia by bus, there is one often (you can check the timing on the photo posted on google in the review of "Fira bus station".

If I can suggest a trip:
Arrive in Santorini and take 4/5 days to visit the island and the different beaches (buses are chaotic, but frequent and manageable), then go to the old port of Thira and take a 6h boat trip (30 euros) that make you visit the vulcan and bath in the hot volcanic springs in the small island between Santorini and Thirassia, at the end the tour normally stops on Thirassia island a couple of hours before going back to santorini island... I suggest you to not go back but take a room and stay a couple of night there (it's a very rural and beautiful small island, you can go hiking and both the beaches are beautiful and not crowded, the local restaurant are quite good.
Then you can take the farry Thirassia-Oia to go there (cost 1€), and then you already are on the main island so you can get to the airport and go back home or whenever you like.

Day six we spent the day in and around Ammoudi Bay. We walked down the stairs from the village of Oia then we started our day with a swim near the small island of Agios Nikolaos which is a short walk from Ammoudi Bay. You will find safe places to enter and exit the water, you just need to really take your time and plan. My wife and I are in our 50’s and we had no real issues. Tips would be to wear enclosed footwear to and from the area and if possible, wear water shoes when entering / exiting the water. The water in July was extremely refreshing. Enjoy watching the diving from the platform of Agios Nikolaos. We then enjoyed yet another loooong lunch at ‘Sunset’, we were offered an exceptional table at the edge of the restaurant with no booking required. It’s a lovely place at lunchtime to watch the busy bay in action. To view the bay from another angle, we then had a few Ouzo’s at the Ammoudi Fish Tavern; yet again another lovely setting with wonderful views, no booking mid-afternoon was required. Staff here will organise a car if you wish for 10 Euros back up to Oia.

Lovely little bay with lots of restaurants right next to the water. Be prepared for the hike up and down though, there are a lot of steps. Make sure you have suitable footwear as I wouldn’t recommend doing it in flip flops like myself!
Once we got to the bottom we walked through the restaurant areas and got a lovely lunch. We then continued to walk around to the “beach” area. It’s a rocky terrain but we really enjoyed the walk. It was worth it to swim in such clear waters as well. There is no sand as such just big rocks and a small flat area where some people were lying on towels.
I would definitely recommend a visit to this gorgeous area of Oia.

Lovely bay, very pretty but the walk down is awful.

The donkey owners do not control their donkeys, they were riding two up the cliff and one was ahead of them without a rider, it backed me up against a wall as it came to be pet. This was very traumatic and could have been avoided if the donkey was controlled better. The other donkeys are scattered down one straight of the cliff, you literally have to walk in zig zags behind donkeys (luckily they didn't kick) to get past them. There was an owner sat under a canopy with no care in the world.

Would highly recommend a taxi! However expect to pay at least 15 euro for a lift that is only a few minutes.

The bay is full of restaurants which is nice but make sure you booked prior to hike, would be awful to endure that walk and not get a table. Would recommend Amoudi Fish Tavern!

The worst part of it all, when you are trying to enjoy a nice evening meal, all the party catamarans park up for sunset - a shame this tainted our experience.

An amazing place to visit. The views are spectacular as you wind your way down around 230 steps. When you get to the bottom, walk straight through the restaurant on the left to the other side and follow the path around the cliff edge. You have to climb over rocks to get to an accessible part of the bay to get into the water. It is quite dangerous and extremely uncomfortable underfoot with the jagged lava rocks So I would recommend water shoes or old runners. Also once in the water be careful of the rocks as they can be slimy and slippery. The water is lovely and refreshing and well worth the hassle when you finally get in. There is a diving platform on the little island opposite if you are brave enough to have a go. I personally would not bring children here as it is quite dangerous to access and the waves can have quite a swell, especially if there are boats in the area. I watched a couple with 2 small children and it was absolute torture for them.

very beautiful site to see from both land and from sea. however, it's not very large and so it's hard to spend a lot of time there unless you dine at one of the restaurants. good as a stop on the way to Oia up top.

Very nice place to swim and pose in Oia but- over 200 steps down and back up again followed by a walk across rocks- be aware. Restaurants expensive, even for Oia and take up the whole space so people walk past you while you are eating.

Yes worth a visit with the above caveats

Be prepared to walk!! The scenery is beautiful all the way down, you can definitely get some amazing pictures to capture your adventures in Greece. Wear comfortable shoes with good traction on the bottom. Some of the stairs can be a little slippery on the descent. Remember what goes down must come back up!! There are a lot of stairs that are pretty steep so be aware that it can be a little taxing to get back up. There are donkeys that will take you back up for 10 euro or there is another way back to the top that is less scenic but not yearly as bad to go up. It’s still pretty steep but much better than the stairs. Taxis are hard to come by so if you aren’t staying in Oia renting a car would be a good idea.
