This this was a terrible train trip with a lot of jerking motion, and the driver slamming on the brakes and other things falling to the floor. I was actually afraid we might be tossed from the train with going down the worst. Don't know but maybe it was the driver's first day and he didn't know how to slow down correctly.

The main aim of this Petit Train is to get you to the top of the cliff where the monument and chapel overlook the sea. There is also an interesting 'concrete' aeroplane memorial to L'oiseau blanc - a plane which set off to fly from Paris to New York and was last seen neat Etretat and never found. The train is typical road train - but don't get confused about what happens at the top. We did not listen properly when the driver explained in French - and when he told us in Englsh we thought her said that the stop and the top was 4 to 5 minutes. What he acutally said was they drop you off to look at the chapel and memorials and come back for you after 45 minutes. We should have listened mor carefully to the french!!! For us the 6 euro each to get us up the cliff was worthwhile as I struggle a little with mobility. The coffee vans at the top are expensive!

6 Euro per person to get up to the top of this steep cliff which winds around Etretat is not bad especially with two young kids. Okay the tour is only now spoken in recorded French but at least it's a chilled out trip to the top and then you can visit Les Jardins Etretat and get another train later on.

We liked the idea of taking a train ride to the top of the cliffs to see the view and avoid the steep climb. It cost 6€ so seemed reasonable. The first problem was that the headphones with language translation did not work. The driver seemed surprised but having read other reviews it seems to be a regular problem!

The trip takes you around the town and then up a steep twisting road. There is a constant explanation but unless you understand French not much help. The smalll amount I did understand suggested it would have been interesting and worth hearing.

At the top we were able to get out of the carriage to look at the view,. Unfortunately because we had no translation we were not really clear on how long we had before the train departs. We all heard different times 5 mins, 10 mins and some German colleagues thought it was 15 minutes. Whatever, after taking a couple of photos and returning the train had gone.

We presumed we could catch the next train an hour later but didn't really want to wait so we walked down the steps and windy path to the beach. This is ok if you are fairly fit but would not be an option for less able people.

It would have been nice to know what the return journey arrangements were at the start.

It was a good idea and the driver is very fair.
Circulation in Etretat is horrible, then for $10 ticket you can ride in Etretat in Security and park your car in parking (fees applicable). Available in Season only.

The little train that takes you up to the chapel on the hill is very misleading it advertised a multi lingual commentary but all it had was French so we paid 6 euros each and did not understand any of the commentary when I complained stating you advertise multi lingual commentary the 3 persons on this attraction were not interested I my complaint, SO PLEASE DONT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY.

This is a diesel powered road train that ferries you up to the spectacular view from the cliffs of Etretat, arriving in the carpark. The memorial to the Oiseau Blanc and the beautiful little chapel are pleasant enough, but it is the view to the famous needle that makes it worthwhile. The alternative to the train is the 341 steps cut into the cliff and we generally use these unless we are with people who have health problems. The train is rather expensive and you pay per person, so for a family it can add up. We motivate our children with a race to the top and an ice-cream when they get back down, which is cheaper and better for you. You don't want to come to Etretat and not see this view, and you can make it worthwhile by following the GR21 walking route along the cliffs. We have walked from here to Yport in the past.

This Little Train that takes you up to the Chapel on the hill is a waste of time and money. We paid and waited for the posted time of departure. As the time approached they simply changed the departure time on the sign as people on the train wondered why we did not leave. We asked and they told us the time had changed. I'm sure it was to get more people on the train. We told them they should let the people know of the change. We go told that we could do it if we thought it was important. They also shortened the time of the turnaround on the trip as a result. If you can just drive up and park close. Or if you do take the train make it a one way up trip. The walk down was easy and not that far.

For those of us who like choices between climbing and being drive up a good steep hike, it was worth the 12 (I think) euros that it cost for the two of us. The ride up is tres ordinaries. The walk along the top of the falaise avant is hard to describe -- you just have to do it.
