Brilliant experience though it’s a bit of a walk to the lake. Having said that, a random driver took the less mobile, in our group, to the cafe near the bottom. We left the salt on our skin until we got back to the hotel. There’s a shower at the lake that costs €1. It does your skin wonders.

Salt farms and lakes, set in the crater of an extinct volcano. Park at the top and walk down through a hand-carved tunnel. Long steep walk, possibility you can drive there if you have mobility issues. €5 entry per person. Showers available, €1 for a short blast to get the water off. Very warm water in the pools, which was nice, not as salty as the Dead Sea, but just as floaty. A very interesting experience.

Visited as part of a tour. Water very refreshing. Changing facilities at base. Not overcrowded at all. December is a great time to visit. The old remains of the salt transportation system is still in place. If you are in Cape Vede I would defo make the trip

Floating in the water is so wonderfully bizarre! Great experience! One point minus because when we finished, some large groups arrived so I could imagine that the fun would be much less when the timing would be bad. So be there early.

The entire complex is located inside a huge volcano crater. This was previously used to mine and export salt. After commercial salt mining ended on the island, the tourism potential was discovered. Today you can swim in a lake with an extremely high salt content and let yourself drift like in the Dead Sea. Entry costs six euros. Changing rooms, showers, toilets and a coffee shop are available.
