- Jenny MWendover, United Kingdom59 contributionsPerfect relaxing breakHaving read the reviews before we went we were a bit dubious as previously we had stayed at the Rui Touareg on the south of the Island which was very good but so much bigger and more like a factory! This hotel is much smaller and Italian run so most of the people were Portuguese, Italian or German. English is definitely not the second language. We could not fault it at all. In fact although I would not rate it as 5 star, it was clean, very friendly and the food and scenery were fantastic. We paid extra for a sea view which was well worth it and amazing to sit and watch the sunset on the balcony with a G&T . People complained about the distance to the restaurant but we were almost the furthest block and it was about a 3 minute walk. The Rui hotels on the Island are far bigger and our walk last year was at least 10 minutes. It is not really suitable if you can’t do stairs or slopes . The restaurant had themed evenings, canapés were served outside with live music each night outside the restaurant. There was always plenty of choice and also an Al a carte restaurant which you paid extra for but we never felt the need to use. There was always a sun bed on the beach or beside the pool available despite it being half term week. For €12 each you can use the spa for 2 hours where they have a swim up pool which goes outside, a jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. We spent a couple of hours there and were the only ones! The little boutique shops around the complex were good to look around too and cheaper than the stalls on the beach. About half a mile to the right along the beach beside the chimney was an amazing bar and restaurant which we used a few times. You can rent a sun bed there for €2.50 for the day. They do fantastic cocktails & food and generally when it was very windy on the hotel beach we would walk along and it was tucked. out of the wind. We will definitely recommendVisited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 25, 2024
- Sylvain PLoue, France58 contributionsGreat !!For those who want entertainment, big evenings etc. It's not here... But take advantage of the kindness of the waiters and waitresses, who make the effort to speak French...it's here. Superb place to stroll on a beach as far as the eye can see.. Beautiful weather, but very windy. Very good and varied food With discovery of local dishes. Great stayVisited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 30, 2024
- alisei-netBologna, Italy997 contributionsGorgeous beachBeach famous for its beauty and extension. Very long, very deep and with large dunes with soft profiles. In the northernmost area there are some tourist villages while the central and southern parts are the wildest and most isolated. An ideal beach for long, extended walks, in fact, especially in the morning, there are many tourists who walk along it along the always rough sea. Luckily there is always some wind, the sun beats down hard here. I suggest tackling the dunes and climbing the highest ones to enjoy the view.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 1, 2024
- Nicola A1 contributionEverything was excellent... despite the windinessExcellent international resort that guarantees an amazing desert beach with dunes for kilometre-long walks, staff always helpful and kind, high quality cuisine (I recommend the excellent tuna!) and entertainment & shows (which I didn't take advantage of) which are well organized and never intrusive. The wind and waves are characteristics of the island to be taken into account with their pros and cons. Compliments!Visited June 2024Traveled soloWritten June 19, 2024

- Roberta2 contributionsTOPI stayed at this beautiful property the second week of October, perfect location, well-kept common areas, comfortable and well-cleaned room, good quality food. Very good guys animation, always present, kind and not intrusive, led by the fantastic Giulio. Beautiful evening shows, all really professional. A special thanks for the beautiful week of vacation, goes to the girls Stefania, Asia, Eleonora and Beatrice to the boys Lorenzo and Giacomo, to the DJ Gabriele, to the singer Lucio and of course to Giulio with his simplicity and always ready lines.Visited October 2024Traveled with familyWritten October 23, 2024
- Maree CInverness, United Kingdom118 contributionsBeautiful beach.Walked along this beach in both directions from our hotel Riu Karamboa. Lovely white sand to walk on and a beach bar around 15/20 minutes each direction. There are also wee huts selling bits and bobs along the way. Look out for sea Urchins by the shore. You would think you were in the Carribean if it weren’t for the waves, Red flags on the beach most days. We did manage a wee swim on a yellow flag day, with care.Visited November 2024Traveled with friendsWritten November 22, 2024
- Assunta B1 contributionBravo buoy sight to returnGood property in a beautiful location, great food. Animation with very polite boys, not intrusive. Professional and very nice waiting staff. The only flaw the dated room, climate and bathroom to review.Visited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten December 23, 2024
- luisaTorino_PiemonteMoncalieri, Italy34 contributionsGreat villageWe are staying at the Village Bravo Playa de Chaves and we are really excited: great team, great food, clean rooms, great climate (30 degrees but breezy) no mosquitoes , great shops, friendly and non-invasive local people. The only flaw, if we want to call it a defect, is that being Atlantic, the water is a bit cold. In conclusion: to be strongly recommended, keep it up. - LizzyLizItaly548 contributionsIrresistible "African sickness"We were guests of Voi Praia de Chaves so we enjoyed this beach far and wide! The sand is very soft and it is not easy to take long walks because it sinks even on the shore... but the feeling under your feet is so pleasant! Going to the right you arrive at the fireplace of the ancient furnace that gives its name to this beach as right here were produced the seals, the keys (chaves in fact). Continuing there is a point where the beach narrows and from there you can climb some dunes and then descend and flank a high wall of sand. After that stretch the beach widens again but on the seafront you have to be careful because rocks emerge. Moving away from the shore you can visit small local bazaars located here. Always starting from the Voi resort and choosing to walk to the left it seems that apparently there is nothing interesting, instead at some point you come across a desert lunar landscape formed by imposing and uncontaminated sand dunes that the wind has carried from Africa giving life to a real desert on which constantly models fascinating craters.... and all this wonder plunges into the ocean! ....and while I tell you all this I have a great desire to go back!Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 10, 2025

First, many have conflated reviews of the restaurant (Pergola de Chaves) with the "hotel" (Vila Cristina, not a hotel but a set of 17 villas built right on the sand)) with the beach on which they are situated Praia Chaves. ALL three are top notch.
Sand much better, less rocks and no flotsam, water cleaner (no boats anchored) than town beaches and nobody swims here except us. We LOVE that. The Tui crowd will not dare enter the wavy ocean here. Swimming here is NOT for children nor those lacking confidence in waves and ocean knowledge. But for those who swim well and can swim through and under waves it is BRILLIANT!
Waves have been particularly strong last two weeks. In summer MUCH less swell. I doubt they ever put a green flag here as the bottom contour, abrupt drop off just off the beach, is not conducive to wading by non swimmers.

We returned from a week and had the misfortune to come across this disrespectful guide. He first asked us for the full financial cost of the 3 excursions at the end of the first, claiming that his mother was ill and that he needed this money to buy him the medicine. We never saw him again for the next 2 excursions, although they were paid for and no more signs of life from him. TO ABSOLUTELY AVOID

I'm still on site. Beautiful view of the sea. Food and variety average. Good entertainment but the host who made fun of Asians in public, during the 9:30 p.m. show on Friday March 22, 2024, by speaking an invented language supposed to be Chinese with caricatured intonations typical of mockery, needs to calm down . I didn't like it being from Taiwan. In some countries this would be considered racism. This point darkens the image and lowers the hotel's bill. This spoils my relaxing vacation a bit.

The beach is wery nice and inviting to take beautifull photos or take evening walk (be careful, sunset happens fast) but not suitable for swimming (maybe if you are competetion level swimmer) because of really big, unpredictable wawes. Im good swimmer and got knocked of my legs pretty much immediately and knocked over some. Nothing happened to me, but it was not enjoyable. You can waddle in the watter around knee high, but deeper is hazard. There was never green flag at guard post the week I spent here

This glorious stretch of clean white sand and crystal clear waters runs for five kilometres along western coast of the Island.
The northern part of the beach is at Praia das Dunas, while the southern end includes the Morro de Areia Nature Reserve.
Sunday 14th November we did visit here as part of our Quad Bike Tour. We sped up and down the sand of the vast dunes. We did stop at a viewpoint where we could see this glorious beach stretch out in front of us.
Due to the constant wind and the size of waves, this is an ideal spot for wind and kite surfing. It is popular with surfers and home to a Kite & Surfing School.
At times the waves can be rather severe, so only entre the sea where and when permitted, follow instructions from the Lifeguards.
It is also a wonderful place to stroll along dodging the waves walking along the waters edge.
From our Hotel, Riu Karamboa, it was a good walk along the beach to Chaminie de Chaves. This is the remains of an old brick factory, its chimney is a beacon along the beach, also generates a sense of curiosity and needs to be investigated. There is a really nice bar/restaurant there, to sit a recuperate before the walk back to the hotel.

This is the “busy” beach on Boa Vista as there are a few hotels situated here. However it’s a very big beach and for the most part very peaceful and idyllic. Fantastic for beach walks and surprising amount of variation. The sand dunes are quite a majestic sight. With the Chimney of Chaves a prominent landmark on the beach. Spent a lot of time relaxing here.

Buona vacanza
