The hike to the waterfalls from the parking lot is quite short, with a wide and flat path. The waterfalls are beautiful. There is not a lot of shade and swimming is not allowed; so keep that in mind on hot days. It was quiet when we arrived around 2pm on a Saturday; but by 3pm it was really busy. The viewing platform at the top is nice; but the trees block a lot of the view down. Great for a quick trip.

This park is in the scenic Schoharie Valley, about a one hour drive southwest of Albany, and it has a lot to offer. There are hiking trails, a boat launch on the Blenheim-Gilboa Reservoir, fishinh, a disc golf course, pavilions, and an Olympic size swimming pool. Unfortunately, the pool was not open on the hot, humid day that I visited at the end of June. The pool is under renovation and while it was initially scheduled to be opened July 4th weekend, 2021, the opening date was pushed back to the middle of July, so if you want to swim there, it would be best to check the pool status before visiting.

There is also a waterfall for which the park is named, and the parking entrance for which is just south of the main entrance. From that parking lot, you can either walk to the base of the falls or to the overlook viewing platform.

The park is free to visit during the week.

I swear it was impossible to get a good rundown of how to approach this place, after reading reviews and such, it just wasn't clear. Here's the rundown: if you want to see the falls, you need to park at the "Minekill Falls Overlook" which is closer to Shew Hollow Rd. The other entrance, which is the main entrance, is where you do all the camping and end up at the longer trails. If you just want to see the falls right away, the Overlook parking is where you need to be, and is not where the GPS led me to. Thankfully I saw a sign for it and turned in rather than listen to the GPS. From the overlook parking area you walk a small bit and see the falls from the top. If you want to see the falls from the bottom, which is a really nice experience, you walk only about 10 minutes down a path which is clearly marked for you to follow. The area is worth taking a picnic in or sitting down and having a nice relaxation. If I could I'd build a house down there as it seems so closed off the rest of the world but still pretty and wide and open. Like entering a hidden valley.

Beautiful and quiet! An undiscovered place with great hiking trails! My husband and I walked the park for 2 hours. We saw the gorgeous waterfalls, and overlapped trails. The foliage in early November was stunning as well.

This fall is a bit hard to see. From the parking area, there is a short trail to a viewing platform, but the waterfall is at an angle, so we decided to hike down to get closer. The hike wasn't too long and the falls were more dramatic from the bottom. The walls of the cliffs are a great sight as well.

We went to Mine Kill on a bit of a whim. The drive through the Schoharie Valley along the creek was beautiful. The park itself was amazing: public pools, disc golf, well maintained trails, boat ramp, kayaking, and clean restrooms. Most surprising may have been that on Labor Day the park was virtually vacant which was fantastic.

We had passed Mine Kill Falls many times. When we finally stopped, we were amazed at the beauty and splendor of the falls. Mom walks with a cane and had no problem with the steps. The walk to the falls is so gorgeous. A lot to see!

On Route 30, watch for the sign that says Mine Kill Falls Overlook. Pull in and park, and take the 1 minute walk to the overlook! Breath-taking view of a natural wonder!

They have the best pool EVER!!! Shhhh don't tell anyone, but if you go there on a Saturday or Sunday in the middle of the summer you'll have the place to yourself! Sparkling clean, a little cool, but that's what you want when its hot outside. They have BRAND NEW Play ground equipment all over the park. Plus if you need motivation to get up and do a little hike - try the Geocache challange.
