History lesson!
Apr 2019
This was the first time we saw the Maid of the Mist! For us it was incredible. We enjoyed every bit of the trip and then some. So many beautiful places to see! What a great trip, what an adventure!

Fascinating History
Sep 2019 • Couples
As soon as you step off the elevatory you are learning the history of the power station. A special plus of our visit was to see the building of the 2 new Maid of the Mist boats, the guide was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions, no time limits, you could stay as long as you liked.

This was pretty cool

Half the streets are currently torn up, so getting here can be a bit of a challenge. It's in the parking lot of the discovery center. Look for the crane! Simple, free elevator trip to the bottom of the gorge, along with some interesting (what's remaining) architecture. We went in the morning, and pretty much had the place to ourselves. There is a security guard at the bottom, nice guy, answers questions, etc. This portion is fully wheelchair accessible.

Access the Gorge Trail from here
Jul 2019 • Family
It's basically an elevator to access the ruins of the power plant. There are informational displays of the disaster along the walls. If you hike the Gorge Trail you can see pieces of the ruins along the trail. It's not an easy hike so come with boots on. Maid of the Mist was also building boats there and it was interesting to see that too.

Power station

Free, you just take the elevator down to the bottom. You can access a trail up the gorge from here. We just stopped for a quick look around. It is amazing when you think of the disaster that happened here. When we went they were lowing pieces of the new maid of the mist boats.

Much to see
Jul 2018 • Couples
Always a hit and a place I’ve enjoyed since I was a kid. Much to see and much to do. Easy to get to with free parking. You can learn a lot or just sit back and enjoy.

The Schoellkopf Power Station is located next to the Discovery Center at Niagara Falls State Park. There is a lone elevator building that looks like it goes nowhere. At the bottom, you exit and find informational panels explaining the power station history. From here you either return up the elevator or take the American Falls Gorge Trail.
The area is now being used by the Maid of the Mist. They store the boats here during the winter. The crane is huge.
Parking is available at the Discovery Center for $10 a day.
