About
Goat Island sits in the middle of Niagara Falls, offering many walking trails and viewing points of the surrounding landscapes. Here, you can get a great view of Horseshoe Falls and American Falls from Terrapin Point and Luna Island, explore Cave of the Winds at the bottom of Bridal Veil Falls, and cross over a historic walking bridge to the Three Sisters Islands. The Niagara Scenic Trolley is an easy and scenic way to traverse the island—though walking around the island takes just 30 minutes—there are also tours available that combine it with the Maid of the Mist boat ride to the base of Horseshoe Falls. – Tripadvisor

    Goat Island a must visit!
It was magical. My first time at Niagara Falls, it is amazing and unlike anything you have ever seen. I understand why is is one of the 7th wonders of the world. There were more activities on the Canadian side of the falls so, go across the boarder and experience the attractions.

The right place to go see the falls from the American side
There are lots of vantage points around Niagra Falls, but for visitors with a relatively short time to see the highlights, Goat Island is the place to go. At its western tip, there's a great view of the Canadian Falls (so close, a change in the wind means an instant soaking); and at the north tip (by the Tesla statue), one can overlook the American Falls (Goat Island is at a higher elevation than the closer Luna Island vantage point). There is a good-sized parking lot (P2) on Goat Island, which was very convenient. We got there at 9:30 am on a Saturday, and were very surprised to find ourselves nearly the first visitors there (granted, this was in mid-May and there was still some lingering early morning fog...). The parking fee was reasonable, and the directions to get there along with hours and fees were easily accessible via the NF state park's website. There are public restrooms on the outside ground floor of the Top of the Falls restaurant building, between the parking lot and the western tip of the island. And note that there is a wheelchair-accessible ramp to the western viewing point, bypassing the many stairs. Watch for the black squirrels in the trees, and the Canadian geese that like to hang out on the lawn near the western tip's viewing point.

    Full of scenic sites
When you talk of Niagara, everyone says go to Canada. My thoughts are stay in the US first. Goat Island is an awesome place to start with views of Canadian falls, islands with bridges, nature, and standing over bridal veil. Cave of the Winds attraction is there, and a shuttle bus takes you around.

You can get over here either by foot or by trolley. Both use the same pathways. Trolley is like $3 per adult and $2 per kid.

There are 2 ways to get around the island; one is a hiking trail, the other is ADA friendly-although be aware there are some slopes. The ADA one is fully paved.

The ADA provides some nice views of the water leading to the Falls. It's so peaceful.

Lots of people out, so it's pretty safe.

You can ride your bike, bit you can only take them so far, so bring your lock.

You can also walk your dog, but please bring baggies so one walks around with your dog's goodbye gifts on their shoe.

The ADA path leads to all attractions, although the map makes it seem like you can only take the hiking trail to get to them.

Not much seating on the actual ADA path (until you get to the attractions anyways) so be prepared.

There are some steps so if you have a wagon or stroller or wheelchair, be prepared.

There is a restaurant, Cave of the Winds and Bridal Veil Falls down by the Falls.

The barrel picture is I think $50. Don't remember how much the tickets are to the Cave.

I'll do both next time I go.

All in all, a great place to visit.

This is the entrance to Cave of the Wind attraction and view of Horseshoe Falls. Parking is $10. This fee allows you to park all day; drive out and go back; as well as park at the other parking lot closer to the other waterfall. As soon as you park, expect to have bees flying around you and even into the car. There are picnic tables on the park side next to the parking lot. Beware of more bees and animal poop (fertilizer?) in the grass area.

I walked on Goat Island twice during my visit to Niagara Falls in April 2022. I walked from my hotel, the Sheraton, past the Observation Tower to a bridge. I walked over the bridge which took me over the rapids to Goat Island. On Goat Island, you can make a right or a left. Both walks I made a right and walked to the viewing areas for Horseshoe Falls and American Falls / Bridal Falls. On the first walk I also visited The Cave of the Winds (separate review). The viewing area for Horseshoe Falls was fenced off due to slippery conditions so you could only get so close. But the view of Horseshoe Falls was still spectacular and I took photos and a video. For the viewing area of American Falls / Bridal Falls, you can get fairly close to the top of the falls. From there you also get a view of Rainbow Bridge, the Observation Tower, the Canadian side and the rapids. I then walked back to my hotel. I really enjoyed both of these walks and I estimate that I walked 3-4 miles. There is a Hop On Hop Off Trolley if you do not like to walk (I love to walk) which you can take all day for a small fee. I look forward to returning to Goat Island. Next time I will turn left and explore the areas on Goat Island which are near the Rapids.

Worth taking the walk over, or you can drive if you wish but parking was $10. If you are staying at one of the hotels in town, you can walk there within about 10-15 mins casually.
We went in March and some of the overlooks were closed due to ice and snow still on the pathway.
Great views!

Goat Island spans the space in the Upper Niagara River between the Horseshoe Falls (Canadian), and the American Falls. There are several observation points at the brink of the Falls where visitors can view its might and fury. It is the only place to access Three Sisters Islands, three small natural islands that extend into the rapids of the Upper Niagara River. Also on Goat Island is the entry to the Cave of the Winds, a series of staircases and decks that take you alongside Bridal Veil Falls, an experience not to be missed. The Nikola Tesla monument pays tribute to the man who was influential in building the first hydro-electric plant in Niagara Falls which started the electrification of the world. A large portion of Goat Island remains in its natural forest state. Adventurers may encounter local wildlife, waterfowl, and birds along the hiking paths that encircle the island.

Goat island divides the Niagara river into two parts which make both - one smaller part the American Falls and the bigger part the Canadian Falls.
Visiting the Goat island is the best thing you can do for free to admire this natural beauty. The only compulsory fee is 10$ flat parking fee if you're driving.
When parked you can walk from the American to the Canadian Horseshoe Falls, being so close to the rumbling water on both waterfalls. There're plenty of benches to rest, have a snack and enjoy the beauty.
TIP: do come back at night (then parking is free) to watch the falls spectacularly illuminated.

Other than the $10 parking, the admission is free. As you will traverse wet and dry surfaces, wear the proper footwear. In the summer, bring plenty of water and snacks. It can get hot and humid on those summer days. There are lookouts, public lavatories, snacks stands, and free trash cans. Bring dollar bills if you plan to give money to the street entertainers.

As we were going across the bridge we saw a man down on one knee in front of a women...it was so fun to see them get engaged and how happy they were! We enjoyed our visit at the end of September when the weather is a little cooler and not crowded. We brought our bicycles and rode through everything on Goat Island and the surrounding area. Such beautiful views of the falls. We went back in the evening to enjoy the falls light up at night. Very clean and everything was well marked.

We went to Niagara Falls as part of a larger tour, and the day we were there happened to be VERY rainy. The lighting wasn't great for pictures, and we couldn't get to all the viewpoints we wanted to, but we were duly impressed and loved our visit there! We went to Prospect Point, Terrapin Point on Goat Island, and the overlook at the top of the observation tower, as well as the Maid of the Mist. This is a must-see place! We would probably like to come back again some day!
