The one medal a soldier Doesn’t want to get. Purple Heart.

What a lovely museum. The one metal a soldier doesn’t want to get is the Purple Heart. The people working there are very helpful. Super clean place. They give you touch pens so you don’t have to touch any screens.

hidden gem

If you happen to be in the West Point area be sure to make a trip to this museum. Cover the history of the medal and showing all aspects of getting wounded or killed in action through the wars it is a way to honor those who fought for the USA. There are interactive stations to hear stories of Purple Heart recipients and also computers so you can search a service person.

Museum with veteran database
Apr 2021
Brand new museum after $17 million NYS grant. Many photos you can see in about 30 minutes. This museum is also based on computers that monitor their extensive database. You can also follow each section with the account of a selected veteran. You ca spend a lot of time with this as it was not crowded on a Tuesday afternoon. Right next to New Windsor Cantonment that is ideal for lunch.

A sad but memorable place

Excellent facility with an informed person at the desk. Excellent exhibits that highlight American heroes, and underscores the stupidity of our political leaders that sends our people abroad to die in far away hellholes for no discernable reasons. Bring all the troops out of the Mid-east and let the locals solve their own problems if they can. No more America blood should be shed there,

A must see

I visited while on a bus trip. It is a very moving experience. Dennis and Pat were very informative. They also said the site will be closing around the end of the year for renovations. I would love to go back when it’s bigger and better.

Must see with all ages

Sobering, inspiring and necessary for all citizens to understand what it means to receive a Purple Heart. One can see this and the adjacent cantonment together. If one views the movie and these two it is quite an enlightening experience. Very kid friendly with american revolution objects children can handle.

Worth a visit

Everyone should come and visit here. It was too cold and windy to walk the grounds outside but will return in the spring. From the moment we stepped inside we were greeted and given a background of the building and grounds. The kids took the interactive questionnaire and were searching for the answers. This kept them engaged while we read about everything. It is beautiful presented and thankful to have these men and women who gave their lives to protect the USA. We purchased some items to support the museum.

Fun interactive museum for kids and history.

Upon entry we were greeted by enthusiastic docents. They provided a brief history, and gave the RTT's a scavenger hunt to do while in the museum.
There are wonderful photos, documents and artifacts throughout. They have one of the original "purple hearts" on display and provide real world stories and images from George Washington through current day.
Surprisingly , we found that the database of purple heart recipients is woefully lacking. It is hard to believe in our great nation, that records of this recognition during military service has not been well documented. If you know of ANYONE who has received this honor, please contact the museum to have the information added.
There was also a room with beautiful munitions displays , dioramas of the revolutionary war and timeline of events and places. The kids can even see what they would look like in period costume!!!!
Small Gift shop on site.
I highly recommend leaving a donation!!!!!
