This place is magical!

I came here for the donuts and stayed for the atmosphere and vibe! Each season has it's charm here! The pies are to die for! The cider is phenomenal and they have different flavors and types, so everyone can enjoy it. If you like dry cider or sweet cider, they have it all! Apple picking is so much fun! It's dog friendly, kid friendly, everything friendly. You won't regret spending some time here and coming back again and again!!!

Good day Cynthia! Thanks so much for the 5 star (or dots, as it were, lol) Visiting in January takes a hardy kind of person, so we thank you! Glad you enjoyed lots we offer and hopefully you got to visit with Harley and Hudson ;) the farm pups on property. See you again soon, hopefully the snowstorms will be a little less dramatic for the rest of this year! best, sharon soons

Very friendly markets nice selection as well as as fresh in season fruit and vegetables- The homemade pies are very nice — a little pricey but it is home made - will definitely go back again

Hi RoseB! Thanks for the post/review. We definitely try to stay "real" and true to our roots, which date back to when my great grandfather bought a struggling dairy farm back in 1910. Homegrown and homemade is our trademark! Glad you enjoyed some Scotty's pie... life is too short for anything but really great pie :) Let us know how we can win that 5th 'star.' When you're in again ask for me, I'm usually around somewhere close by! Thanks again, sharon soons

I can't say enough about this generational owned business!
Delicious, yummy apples, pies, other wonderful goodies. Their cider both regular and hard is the best in the county.

Never Again
Jan 2020 • Couples
My fiance and I drove out of our way to experience this place. On our way back to New Jersey, we decided to stop at Soons. As we walked in the door, two young men were having their own conversation. We were met with one small greeting and then the young man that greeted us, was on his way. We immediately walked out. Will never return! Soons is in need of more attentive staff members.

Good day Faith9, So sorry, your post somehow eluded me, as I do aim to respond to every review asap. It's been a crazy year indeed. Would love more details, feel free to give me a ring or text or email. (info below) Staff training is one of our priorities, but of course, we make mistakes, so I apologize for that. I have and will continue to remind staff that customers always come first, tasks second. Again, do reach out though I know it's a while back. Would like to connect and invite you personally to give us another chance. thanks much, sharon soons (three-four-7-two-0h-4-one-3-one-9 | seshop at earthlink.net)

great orchard outlet and store

A great outlet store fore the Soon's Orchard. You can get fresh apples and an assortment of fresh baked goods. Too many choices to list here, but bring a cooler!
Do try the apple cider donuts.

Hey Ken, Thanks for visiting and posting. This is our one and only store, lol, tho we do go to the Warwick Farmers' Market in season :) Bringing a cooler is definitely good advice! Best regards, sharon soons for all of us at Soons Orchards

Good quality baked goods, rainy day
Apr 2019 • Couples
We didn't see much beyond the inside of the store which wasn't fully stocked but was decently stocked with fresh baked goods. Prices are ok and the quality is very good. Decent place to stop if you are in the area but I wouldn't go out of the way to go unless I were very near and with a hankering for a turnover or pie.

Thanks for stopping Stephen; always glad to see NYC folks visiting the Hudson Valley. We have a lot to offer here! Not sure what you mean by "wasn't fully stocked" - we always appreciate feedback, and details are helpful. (You could message here or send an email to me at info@ soonsorchards.com.) We have well over 1500 items at any given moment, many of which you'll have a hard time finding anywhere else. And pretty much all outstanding - I'm very picky about what we sell. :) As you are aware I'm sure, the growing season is just getting started for everything, so local produce is hard to come by this time of year. We will get out of season stuff from CA, Florida or Mexico when it looks good and the price is right... which is not always the case...but I don't want to be a supermarket selling stuff from all over the world. We grow 55 kinds of apples at Soons; once we get into the late spring, our supplies get low and instead of our usual "2 walls of apples," we are down to about 7 varieties - still tasty of course! I invite you to visit in August when we'll have our peaches, early apples, corn, and many kinds of homegrown and local vegetables. Our store is literally overflowing with super fresh, delicious produce. In early October, depending if we've had a killing frost or not, we could still have our vegetables plus lots and lots of apples, including varieties almost no one else grows. And on fall weekends we offer our fun U-Pick apples and pumpkins -- fun for every age group. I hope you stopped by the sample table to try some of our very delicious and unique products, as well as our sweet cider, which has a huge fan club locally and beyond! (I recently got a request for some to be shipped to North Carolina!) Our hard cider Tasting Room is open Th-Sun so if you're up again on the weekend, do stop in to try our hard cider and check out the many craft beverages, from beer to spirits and wine and cider, of course. Thanks again for checking in and hope to see you in the area again!

Late autumn visit caught trees giving a lovely color display. The decor captured the season, both fall and Halloween.

The staff was friendly and in the spirit of the season. Liberally placed gourds added to the ambience. The cider was delicious and the pies are awesome.

Terrible Apple picking place
Sep 2018 • Couples
We’ve been to lots of places for apple picking and drinks. THIS place was horrible. The “orchards” were full of weeds and hardly any apples low enough to pick. (Not allowed to climb or use those picker poles). Then the whole alcohol tasting area was SO confusing and they were rigid about unclear rules! Won’t be returning except possibly for their cooking class at night.

Hello NancyDancy, Sorry you feel we are "horrible" and decided to post online rather than approach me or another staff member while you were visiting. Columbus Day weekend is typically the busiest of the fall, so things can get a little hectic/go wrong despite everyone's best efforts. (Oddly enough I just responded to a 4-star review on Yelp for the same weekend) I will pass on your thoughts on the Tasting Room; they are always looking to improve, as are we in the store and at U-Pick. While we do have fewer apples this year, no one has had a problem filling their bags, it just takes a bit more walking and looking. And yes, with the ridiculous amount of rain this season, the grass is very abundant. I'm surprised you didn't complain about the mud, which with 30 inches of rain since August 1 is in great abundance as well. (The positive side there is that means we didn't put down herbicides to kill the weeds/grass, which many orchards will do.) If you want to come back on a less busy weekend, I am happy to buy you a drink and we can talk in person about any suggestions you have. Or if you do attend a farm dinner (I'm guessing that's what you mean by the night "cooking class" reference) we could talk then. Just let me know (seshop AT earthlink.net is the best email for me). Thanks, sharon soons

Don't Waste Your Time.
Sep 2018 • Couples
I had read about Soons and was excited to possibly go and pick my own apples, get their fresh produce, and cider. We dropped in today only to find out that either you must make an appointment to pick your own or that pick your own hours were on the weekend. Big disappointment. We tried the apple cider which was good. We also tried their apple cider donuts. I guess you either love them or hate them. I was not a big fan. Also, Soons' employees were not friendly. I bought a few individual apples, some cider and a tomato. Not a lot considering how excited I was about going there. I would not recommend going here. I wish I hadn't wasted my own time.

Hello LK, Sorry to disappoint you yesterday, of course we hate bumming anyone out and we take all feedback seriously. It is true, our U-Pick is only open weekends and holidays (& we don't do "by appointment" either). We make every effort to make this clear on our website, google and all social media. There's just not enough pick your own business during the week for us to have it open, which has been the case for 15 years. If weekends don't work for you, we have next Wednesday Sept 19 we will be open, as well as Columbus Day Oct 8. If you can come either of those days (or a weekend of course) let me know (message me over the Soons facebook page is probably the best route, or e-mail sharon @ soons.us) and you can apple pick on the house. (And I should be able to hook you up with a hot donut, which I somehow think will make you change your mind about the donuts :) ) I would also like to chat in person if at all possible about whatever it was that made you say our staff was not friendly. Obviously this is something I/we take very seriously (and I'm very proud we have many 5-star reviews which specifically note the opposite). Please let me know, I look forward to hearing from you LK. -sharon @ soons
