Our return trip from Block Island to Montauk was the Friday before the expected “Hurricane Henri”. The Pre Hurricane Clouds were showing off their uniqueness, on board chatter consisted of Hurricane tales and expectations. The seas were starting to dance with larger waves than usual. The Captain and mates of “The Viking Starship” kept us all smiling with confidence. The timing for the beginning of a spectacular sunset was perfect as we entered the Montauk Harbor filled with Sweet Block Island Memories.💙🧜‍♀️💙

As one of the four bird watchers on the trip of 27 July 2022, I was extremely delighted to be able to see hundreds of Shearwaters (Great, Cory's, Manx, and Sooty, as well as approximately 50 Wilson's Storm Petrels). Even with 120 passengers, there was more than enough room and a quite comfortable 5 hours trip. So much easier to see these birds than from shore, and so much easier than any over-night trip. Advice might be to be sure to arrive early before departure of the boat - traffic on the 45 mile drive from my home was really a challenge. Leave plenty of time, and if early, there are many local spots to grab a bite to eat before boarding.
The boat was very tidy, and the crew was very helpful. It should almost be billed as a Whale Watch and a Bird Watch - we did have great whale sightings as well!

We came to Montauk specifically to see the whales. We went on the Whale Watch fishing boat excursion with Viking Fleet. Had to ride out about 2 1/2 hours ( was getting a bit doubtful ), before we spotted the whales steam spouts in the distance; but we saw the whales ! It was breathtaking to say the least. The head guy from Cresli.com was very informative with much information as the tour went on. We saw at least 9 adult & calves Humpback whales and one Fin whale.
We were told that they come to the surface to feed and during this process we were able to view them diving (where the tails come gracefully out of the water) and kicking where they kind of do a side spin. They came very close to the boat while their heads stuck out at the top of the water with open mouths draining out the water during their feeding process.. This season Viking Whale watch had 100% success on every trip at finding the whales. Great job Montauk Whale watch & Cresli Inc. !!

The whale watching tour was absolute misery. I was so miserable that the thought of jumping off the boat and taking a life raft to shore was a better fate than what I endured and maybe I would have had a better chance at seeing some marine life. It was raining so hard and it was freezing. The company should have given customers the option of getting a refund. That was not the case. The floors inside the boat had puddles everywhere and were slippery. Whether you were in or out you were no drier than if you jumped in the water. Furthermore, we saw pretty much nothing but a dorsal fin of a sunfish, and a couple of birds. Apparently there was a whale, that I missed, because of the torrents of rain and everyone on board rushed to where the whale supposedly was and I couldn’t see anything. I couldn’t hear anything the scientist was saying overhead because the crappy old speakers on the boat kept going out. It would have been maybe worth the cost to hear what the scientist had to say and if I wasn’t completely soaked from head to toe. I think I would have had a better experience in my hotel room watching YouTube videos of whales. For $80 a person, I would have expected much more. What a wasted day. I’m so disappointed. I would have paid triple that amount to have been spared this miserable 4.5 hour tour and maybe done something better with my time here in Montauk.

The ferry was fine. It was on time, which always matters, and it was clean, including the restroom. There is food available on the boat. The captain was friendly and while seas could get rough, he kept talking to us and letting us know when the seas might calm a bit. My only complaint is that the crew does NOT wear masks, in spite of "mask-up" and "social distance" signs all over the inside of the boat. I had to ask two unmasked young crewmen to move away (they sat a foot away in front of me) after I asked them if they had masks (they didn't) to maintain social distance. As employees, they should know the rules and I felt like I was being heavy handed by having to ask them to move. (They did, but with a little attitude). I'd say about half of the passengers (or more) did NOT mask up. My first trip was in a rain storm so most all of us were crammed into the interior of the boat without fresh air. We are once again being asked to use masks even if we're vaccinated and passengers have a right to be concerned with the Delta variant running rampant. Either follow your own rules or take the signs down.

The crew is amazing, the captain put us on the fish all day and the mates were very helpful The boat was a little crowded, we spent a lot of time untangling lines, but the mates were on point with that as well. I would have given you a "5" but the lady at the window when I checked in was quite snippy and rude. Overall, a great trip.

We are happy you had a good time. Boats are limited to 1/2 capacity, so there should have been plenty of room.

Dear Viking Fleet,

Thank you very much for welcoming us with your Viking Fleet. This is our first time to fish with Viking Fleet and we have travel a very far long distance from upstate New York just to experiencing going with greatest and famous Viking Fleet. We are very happy to inform you that we are truly enjoyed fishing with Viking Fleet and the crew was super excellent and the non-stop biting of the fish was greatly thrilled us specially when hearing the ladies and families screaming with full of excitement as they lifting their fish from the sea and we are all went home with full of fish cooler.

We we would like to express appreciation and our deepest heartfelt thanks to the Captain and the entire crew of Viking fleet for this wonderful and unforgettable fishing experiences. We now considered Viking Fleet as our primary fishing destination and will assure you that we will recommend you to our friends and see you more in the future.

Sincerely,

From Upstate New York

Ernesto

We had a credit for a trip that was canceled summer of 2019 and so decided to book the Magic Hour Sunset Trip the Friday of Labor Day weekend 2020. It was a perfect way to end a week away on Eastern LI! Most people aboard we’re fishing on the lower level but we headed to the top level and just enjoyed the trip and an incredible sunset on a beautiful night. Everyone on the boat was super nice and followed the social distancing rules and wore masks. We definitely will come back next summer and do it again! My teenage daughter loved it!

This was a great trip for my husband, our youngest (7yo), and me. The weather was perfect and the fish were biting. The captain and crew were attentive and very helpful. They did a great job ensuring everything went smoothly. They too pictures for us with our catch and expertly filleted our catch. I would recommend a Vikingstar 1/2 day (4 hour 8a-12p) to anyone visiting Montauk.

A marine adventure that resulted in multiple sightings of humpback whales, minke whales, dolphins and sun fish! weather was sunny and hot, waters fairly calm, and the naturalist from CRESLI knowledgeable and engaging. Remember to put on sunscreen, bring a hat, and consider a parasol for protection as 5 hours out on the water can result in significant sun exposure. For those who get uncomfortable sitting or standing for prolonged periods of time, it can be a bit long. But definitely worth the trip!

We are happy you enjoyed the trip. There are many places on the 140' Viking Starship where you can hide from the sun.
