Liars Saloon is a dive bar in a montauk marina. The chocolate mudslides are famously delicious on a hot summer afternoon.

If you like dive bars. This is the one you want to go to. Mostly local clientele. Salty fisherman and bartenders. They don’t really serve food, I think you can get a Ellio’s pizza if you’re hungry and in a pinch. The juke box is cheap, you always meet someone who has a story. I’ve always been treated great. It’s a must stop for me. Oh and although the sweatshirts are expensive they are CAMBER. Warmest! Worth every penny.

These kind of reviews are always the ones I write with some reluctance. They are the hidden rough gems, not on the main roads, and that offer a glimpse of a slice of local life that isn't easily accessed. Liar's Saloon is one of those places tucked away on the port in Montauk.
This is not a restaurant, or a food shack. This is a dive bar, with all of the loving intent that title conveys. The main patrons are the locals who work on the boats and in the restaurants and businesses that support the largely local tourist economy. When the sun goes down, or the season ends, this is the magnet that attracts the working men and women to blow off some steam. The building is tiny, with a nice large deck along the water. The bar itself has about eight seats and a couple of TV's. There is one main table that seats six on stools. A foosball table and another TV and a hanging shark on the wall and that's about all you need. The walls are festooned with articles of big fish caught in the local waters, and some great pictures of life that has passed by.
The local's were focused on football and drinking when we were there. There was a decent group standing out on the deck, and the rest were hunkered down at the bar. The jukebox was blasting a mix of Billy Joel and some hip hop when we were there. Beers were pounded, we had a great time, and then made our way back down the very dark roads.
Two caveats to make your Liar's Saloon experience more enjoyable. The roads out to it had more deer darting out of bushes and across the road than anything I had ever seen. It was a gauntlet of deer. We probably encountered 20 in the two mile drive from Montauk Highway to the bar. Second, this is a hard drinking bar for hard working people. If you are turned off by folks really letting off steam, this place isn't for you, as it is a small bar and everyone is near by everyone else's space. Come with the right attitude and a thirst, along with a designated driver, and have a blast!

Have NEVER been treated as rudely by a bartender EVER. Have been going every summer for years and introduced the place to many. Never again! She will have to answer to her maker at the pearly gates- good luck with that. Have no idea how she lives with herself.

My uncle keeps his boat at the marina where Liars is. We are always welcomed when my family comes out for our annual Montauk trip in the summer. Dogs are welcomed on the premise which I love & everyone is comfortable around all breeds. The mudslides are awesome!

Gotta love Liars!! Without a question the best bar in Montauk. "A quaint little fishing village with a drinking problem"

First went to Liars in 1982-3. Drinking and partying at its best. The MUDSLIDES go down to easy. Now living in Thailand but still yearn for some of Vinny's Tequila!!!!!

This was a great place for people watching. Definitely where the locals go and once in awhile the nosy tourist (us) sniff around. But everyone was welcoming! The drinks are strong!!! A must do for a trip to Montauk

We went on a Friday, which was Kareokee night....so much fun. There is a line to get in as the place is small, but it's worth the wait. If you don't want to wait in line, you can hang on the deck outside with access to the bar through a window. Plus the beer was cheap, 2 draft beers came to $7. We just left another place where we paid $16 for 2 beers. I highly recommend you check it out.
