Still able to watch during COVID period
Visited the lock during COVID period, there is a lookout on the other side of the lock withe the visitor center being closed. Go under the bridge and turn right and head up the hill. There were a few other families there but everyone maintained 6ft distance. We were able to witness a huge tanker come through. Pretty neat to watch the boat come in and sink down and head out. Recommend looking at the lock schedule before going, especially if you're more than an hour away. Check out the Visitor Center's main page and look for a link at the bottom to find the schedule.

Very Interesting and Unique Experience !
Having grown up by the Erie Canal, I have always enjoyed seeing the boats go through the locks. But the St. Lawrence River locks and the ships going through them are much bigger! We saw two international cargo ships and one Viking river cruise ship go through the Eisenhower Locks. Very cool to see them come in low, be held by big suction cups while water is pouring in. And come out high and on their way to the Great Lakes. Lots of people were there to watch this challenging process. Loved seeing it!!

Call ahead for ship passage schedules.
Ocean going vessels transit Snell and Eisenhower Locks in roughly a two mile distance. Eisenhower is the only one that has a visitor center and overlook. Spend a few hours watching huge ships lowered or raised almost ninety feet on their way in or out of the Great Lakes System. Well worth the time and a huge excitement for kids and adults alike.

Very disappointed by the lack of educational information. There is nothing explaining how the locks work. Only pictures of the construction without captions. There is a phone number to call and check the schedule to see if any ships will be passing through, except they didn’t bother to update the message the day we were going.
Welcome center on the Mohawk River was MUCH better.

After leaving a nearby park, we figured to stop by the lock since none of us have never seen one. It was a good time to stop by because we got the see the lock in action since a ship was going through. Glad we got to something different, especially from a city with nothing like it.

With Covid the Visitor's Center is closed. If you are lucky enough to be there when a boat is coming through I'm sure it is still great. With no boat though it is pretty terrible. It looks like a sewer plant, there is absolutely nothing to see.

If you love ships this is a must see. The process of watching a ship elevated in locks up close is very neat. The St Lawrence seaway system is incredible. Please give this review a helpful vote.

Even though the Visitor Center and Observation Decks were not yet open for the season, the view from the overlook was good. We saw 4 ships locking in in a little over 3 hours. We picnicked in the parking lot and chatted with the other ship watchers. Free fun!

As you enter Robert Moses State Park you drive through a tunnel under this lock! Amazing! You can call to hear the ship schedule for the day as well. We were able to watch an oil tanker pass through the lock. I recommend watching the short video showing how the lock was built. Truly an amazing undertaking and engineering achievement.

I would recommend that if you want to see a ship pass through the lock, check their schedule (especially if you have young children). We were lucky as we happened to be there at the right time. We waited for about 45 minutes and it was really neat to see the ship pass through the lock.

Visited the lock in October 22 2015. Was impressive but would of been more impressive if a boat was going through. My advise is to call the number for the locks and a recording will tell you when a ship is going through. and this is free to visitors.

It is a great experience seeing the Lakers and ocean-going ships travel through the locks. Your children will get a kick out of it and so will you. There is an lookover that gets you quite close to the action. It is seasonal so call the St. Lawrence Seaway Development Corp. to find out when the ships are running.
