Loved the old abandoned light house, not much to see except you get nice views from up there. Not a bad walk from getting off the boat. Much wasn't explained about it and we where given 15 minutes of which we used to take pics.

For our second stop on the day we visited the lighthouse on a small island. The view of the Indian Ocean on the other side of the island was truly amazing. Definitely worth the stop.

Ile aux Fouquets Lighthouse is an old lighthouse dating back to 1864, built to guide ships to the port of Mahebourg.
Despite an influx of keen sightseers during our visit, we managed to find a quiet spot to take in the sound of the sea crashing against the rocky shore, and look out into clear skies.

... and as ruin's go this is a pretty decent one, especially when you stand in the tower and stare up. Worth the boat ride out.

Monday 25th September we visited this Island as part of our Aqua Soleil Tour of the region, booked through the Thomson Rep at our hotel, RIU Le Monde.
Our speedboat moored up a little bit away from the Island so we had to get off the boat and wade into the shore, it was not a problem as it was less than knee high. Would recommend wearing plastic/rubber beach shoes as there is a lot of coral in the water which could hurt if walked on. Also the ground on the Island is a bit uneven and rocky.
The lighthouse is no longer in operation, it has been on fire on two occasions in it's history. Despite the fires it is still safe to walk around the ruins. Inside the lighthouse, itself, are the remains of the spiral staircase that would have gone up to the lighting area at the top.
The small Island is a spectacular sight with its wild and rugged coast and terrain. The waves crash upon the Island sending white foam and spray up into the sky. Absolutely beautiful scenery, wonderful photo opportunity.
We were advised by our Tour Guide not to wander too close to the edge at the far side of the Island as the waves and the sea can be unpredictable.
After about 20 minutes it was time to wade back to our awaiting boat and our tour to continue. Our visit here was a great experience.
The Island is known as Ile aux Fougets or Ile Phare

You have to come early to appreciate the place without the hordes of tourists.
You will then discover an enchanting and preserved setting.

Very pretty island. Excursion by boat. Unfortunately, many tourists arrive and the island is not looked after. Garbage and unmaintained paths. Beautiful panorama. Ocean crashing into the barrier. Recommended despite everything.
