I was somewhat apprehensive on arrival at the NRE centre, but was soon put at ease by the friendly crew and the very welcome breakfast that was provided. It was also good to chat to others who had experienced similar trips. The briefing was very useful and contained a lot of common sense.
After getting kitted up in our safety gear, bussed to the start point and finally getting into the boat we had a very detailed briefing from our boat skipper. He was at pains to ensure that we knew exactly how to react on the water and it was obvious that safety was a high priority. We followed this with some quite intensive practice sessions in still water before eventually facing up to the rapids. It was all that I had expected and a bit more. Having clung on like a limpet for the first rapids I was thrown out head first on the second. No problem, the water was warm and actually warmer than the ambient air. I soon rejoined the boat and faced the next rapids. Lots of furious paddling but we were all tipped out completely at the next rapids. No problem; we got back in and faced the next rapids. This continued for a few hours and was the most fun I had experienced for years.
We were supplied a fruit lunch and bottles of water. Which was very welcome. We had a leisurely swim in the river and we got to see the magnificent River Nile from a different perspective. This was an unforgettable day. Age groups and nationalities all mixed well ranging from teenagers to my age, seventy one.
I think it is so important for all of us to sometimes step out of our comfort zones and experience an activity like white water rafting. On the water one can forget about our other complicated and perhaps stressful lives. On the water we were all equal and all having fun!

Rafting on the Nile is super awesome. This was made even better by NRE!! The day commences with breakfast (basic fruit and eggs + T/coffee) at their Base Camp in Jinja town followed by a humorous briefing by the chief guide Juma (a class apart). After taking your life vests and helmets, rafters are taken to the start point in a bus (45 minutes drive). Without giving away the suspense, suffice it to say that this will be your best and most adrenaline pumping experience for a long time!! The guides are super efficient (special mention of Alex). The rescue team of kayakers and the rescue raft ensure that everyone's safe. The rapids are super and most have 2-3 routes depending on your appetite for adventure. We got flipped twice and it was a memorable experience. There's packed lunch on termination (chicken rolls) plus beer which puts you to sleep on the long ride back. Don't forget your sunscreen !!!

Just stop searching and book already - NRE is the authority on water sports here in jinja.
If you're in Uganda, you should come here to see the Nile. And if you come here, you should book with NRE.
Thoughtful, considerate, capable and fun fun fun. The staff, the operations, the lodging, THE FOOD, everything everything everything they do is tied up and totally recommendable.
I don't write reviews unless I'm incredibly impressed. And yet again NRE has done it.
I personally like staying in the fancy Safari tents, but they have many types of lodging to accommodate everyone.
They're incredibly accommodating in every way, from pickups in Kampala for those who only have one day, to half day trips for those who have an early departure.
But I recommend getting in for sunset, getting on the river the next day, and staying a second night. I also suggest the camp site as the views and scene are both excellent.

beautiful location, but quite rundown place that definitely needs some maintenance (eg new mattresses in the rooms, shower drain repair etc.). The restaurant is very slow, especially in the morning, which can be annoying when you have your kayaking tour lined up and then you‘re stressed because breakfast hasn‘t arrived yet. If you‘re here for the kayaking (the company that does white water kayaking is a separate entity), then choosing a different location to sleep might pay off.

Dear Jules,
Thank you for your review, we always appreciate any feedback – good or bad as we are always looking for ways to improve.
We are really sorry that your experience of our beautiful camp was not up to standard. We are still trying to get ourselves back on our feet as the Covid pandemic hit us pretty hard. We have been doing maintenance pretty much non stop for the last 8 months, any extra monies that come in just goes straight back into bringing our camp back up to standard, and there is still so much more to do.
Did you sleep in a dorm room or an en-suite? In our communal showers, we did have a blockage some weeks back but this was attended to and fixed on the same day.
When our kitchen is busy it can take up to 30min for your food to come – for kayakers, our kitchen opens at 7:30am so you can get on the river for the day. If you order after a long line of people, then it will also take some time. We have been forced to reduce staff shifts due to Covid, so some days we have less staff than other days depending on how busy we are, this can also contribute to things being a bit slower than normal.
Having said all this, we are truly sorry and we are all working around the clock to get our camp back up and restore it to its former glory. We do hope you will visit us again on your next Kayak trip.
Kind regards,
Minette

I've rafted quite a few times here in the States but nothing compares to rafting down the Nile! Did the full day trip and loved every minute of it, starting with the slide to enter the river and ending with the beers on the ride home. The rapids are somewhat spread out but simply floating down the river is beautiful and worth it. Bodyboarding on the river also added a super unique, fun and exciting experience. Our guide Chicken Legs (aka Juma) was hilarious and did a great job guiding us, keeping us focused when necessary, and chatting along the way. Super awesome that they have a photographer that travels along with your group so you can get pictures without worrying about losing or damaging whatever you brought. Overall a very well organized and great value trip. Would definitely do it again!

Would definitely recommend a rafting trip on the Nile with these guys. So thrilling but at the same time felt incredibly safe and in extremely competent hands with Juma and Paulo. Saw some amazing birds, bats, otters and other wildlife in between the rapids, and we were very well fed and watered throughout. Would recommend going for breakfast at the camp first to see monkeys and an amazing view over the Nile from the treetops.

Great trip with a great team. All the staff were lovely and we felt well looked after and safe, as well as having lots of fun! The snacks provided were top notch and they looked after my friend's medication safely for him on the safety raft. Would definitely recommend this company for white water rafting!

Cannot recommend these guys enough. They made me feel at ease and very safe with all the safety kayakers they have on standby. The whole day was very organised and the food was brilliant and very well thought out. And of course it was just so much fun and our main guide was HILARIOUS and really made our whole day

My boyfriend recommend me to experience rafting, so I tried. I had a experience of rafting in Japan, but Uganda one was really different. I thought 'I'm dying ' during rafting, but I'm alive!! lol
That was really thrilling but exciting.
If you go to rafting, I strictly recommend to use sunscreen.

This was one of the best weekends I had while in Uganda. The rafting was so much fun and our guide, chicken legs, made the experience very memorable! The campsite was very beautiful and clean. All the employees were very friendly and welcoming. I would highly recommend staying at Nile river explorers camp and doing the rafting!

To date there have been no recorded cases of the Coronavirus in Uganda or East & Southern Africa. Rafting trips are still operating as are all other tourist activities around the country.

Hi, could you let me know if you have safe parking for a Cruiser and trailer. I'll probably have containers on top of the trailer and vehicle. It appears you can't park at the rooms? Thanks. Regards, Tony.

Hi Tony,
We have askaris at both our sites. No you won't be able to park directly outside the room but there is plenty of safe & secure parking close by.
Cheers Leslie

No, you don't need to know how to swim because adrift provides you with life jackets, so in case the boat flips over you will be able to float and the rescue team which is always around will come and help you
