You could spend two weeks hiking or 6 hours driving and still not see the volcano like this! I have experience flying ultralights and I can easily say that Jeroen is one of the best pilots I have ever flown with anywhere in the world. This is an opportunity to see the volcano up front and close. Jeroen is a great guy and he speaks English very well (may be the only person on the island). He will put you at easy as you climb a top the mountains and glide over the volcano. You will get pictures from a perspective seldom seen. Standing at 26 hundred metres above sea level and aged about a half million years, Piton de la Fournaise is rated as one of the world’s most active volcanoes. In the past three years alone, it has erupted over a dozen times. The last outburst produced more than a hundred million tons of lava which slightly increased the size of the Reunion island. UNESCO has designated Reunion home to a Heritage site and one flight and you can see why. Dominated by two towering volcanic peaks, massive walls and three cliff-rimmed cirques, the island includes a great variety of rugged terrain and impressive escarpments, forested gorges and basins creating a visually striking landscape. It is the natural habitat for a wide diversity of plants, presenting a high level of endemism. There are subtropical rainforests, cloud forests and heaths creating a remarkable and visually appealing mosaic of ecosystems and landscape features. Check out the website Jeroen designed : www.ulm-reunion.com complete with flight pattern options or just email him at Jeroen van Dijk jeroen@electropics.fr What ever you do don't miss this adventure!
