It is one of those places for people who remember the game of a lifetime to overawe. I was swept up in the memories and it was a highlight of our trip for me.

What a beautiful arena. Rich in history and such a great place to be able to skate with the whole family. We laced up the rental skates, and had the ice almost to ourselves. Such a great experience, can't say enough about this facility.

Whenever we come up to Lake Placid in the winter we make a point of stopping by the Arena to take in whatever might be happening (ice hockey tournament, figure skating competition). It's very surreal to think about the "Miracle" here.

For hockey fans and followers of Winter Olympics this is hallowed ice--where the "Do you believe in miracles?" 1980 men's ice hockey victory happened.

Herb Brooks Arena is a multipurpose space in the New York State community of Lake Placid. Built for the XIII Olympic Winter Games held in 1980, the 7,700-seat arena opened on September 20, 1979 as the Olympic Centre Ice Rink. Little has changed about the venue since it opened. Fun Fact: The arena was later renamed after the late Herbert Paul Brooks Junior (1937-2003) in 2005 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of America's unexpected victory over the Soviets at the XIII Olympic Winter Games in men’s ice hockey (Brooks coached the team to a surprising 4-3 victory). Other events hosted at the arena during the XIII Olympic Winter Games include figure skating and the closing ceremony. Neat! Designed by Distin & Wilson, look for the Herb Brooks Arena inside the Lake Placid Olympic Centre at 2634 Main Street. It is currently owned and operated by the Olympic Regional Development Authority, a New York State public benefit corporation. Today, the “miracle on ice” site hosts figure skating championships, hockey events, ice-dancing shows, and other special events. Be sure to check out all the cool memorabilia in and around the space!
