Mirror Lake in Lake Placid is absolutely magical! It feels like stepping into a fairy tale. There’s nothing more exciting than walking around this enchanting lake on the comfortable trails, then dipping your tired feet into the warm water while relaxing on a peaceful beach. Ah, and the evenings here are pure magic! Sparkling lights above the shimmering water... We couldn’t take our eyes off these fairy-tale scenes. We can’t wait to return to the shores of this stunningly beautiful lake again :)

Clean, quaint, great views, & good restaurants. You can get discounted rates on the Friday after Thanksgiving that are good for certain times outside of peak dates. The Cottage Cafe across street is great. Like an apres ski vibe and right on lake so you can watch skaters or dogsleds. It is sooo beautiful in the winter with all the white lights up that stay up throughout the winter.

During our visit to the Lake Placid region, we couldn't resist taking a leisurely walk around Mirror Lake, and we were absolutely delighted with the experience!
First and foremost, the picturesque lake itself is a sight to behold. The tranquil waters and the surrounding natural beauty create an atmosphere of serenity, perfect for a relaxing walk. As we strolled along the path, we were mesmerized by the reflections of the majestic mountains on the lake's surface - a view that truly takes your breath away.
The sidewalk, which we learned had been recently updated, was well-maintained and spacious enough to accommodate the many visitors exploring the area. This made the walk even more enjoyable as we didn't have to worry about navigating through uneven surfaces.
One of the highlights of our walk was the opportunity to view the impressive homes that grace the waterfront. These beautiful residences added a touch of elegance to the already captivating landscape, and we couldn't help but imagine waking up to such breathtaking views every day.
What added an extra layer of charm to the walk were the names of local mountains and elevations thoughtfully integrated into key viewing locations within the sidewalks. It was a nice touch.

Mirror Lake is a beautiful body of water and is the centerpiece of Lake Placid. One may enjoy the peaceful water from one of two parks in town or the public beach. Our favorite thing to do is walk 2.7 miles around the lake and enjoy the various views of the lake along the way. At times it truly acts like a mirror with the reflection of the sky and its surroundings.

Mirror Lake is still as beautiful as we remembered from 25 years ago, but the area didn’t feel the same. It’s all hotels. And it’s under construction now so there is only 1 lane through town, and parking is difficult and fee-structured. We did drop-off shopping. The other side of Mirror Lake is still peaceful. Travel a few miles to see beautiful, peaceful lakes and ponds.

This lake which borders downtown Lake Placid is a real gem. It is gorgeous. Often the clouds are reflected in the still water. It is peaceful because they don't allow motorized boats. That leaves a lot of room for stand-up paddleboards, row boats, kayaks, etc.
On July 4th they also do a great fireworks show at 9:30pm (from the park at the southern end) which you can see from just about anywhere on the lake. I took some amazing photos of the fireworks reflected off the surface of the lake. I have also taken great shots over the lake (from the great Golden Arrow resort) at sunrise (around 5:30pm in summer).

Where do you park if you are not staying here? The whole area was under construction and the only place I could find to park had a bunch of meter folks out there putting tickets on windows. After a 2 hour drive I came to Lake Placid and couldn't do a a darn thing. I guess if you are staying within walking distance of the downtown it would be cute- if you are just driving there for the day- don't bother.

Mirror Lake is absolutely lovely. At times during the day it is just like a mirror with waters reflecting its surroundings in the calm water. The lake is great for swimming, canoeing or other water activities. One may stroll around the lake on sidewalks and through Lake Placid. Staying on the lake is magical, and sunsets reflecting on the lake are spectacular.

We are here staying at the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid, NY, as usual this place is amazing. We checked in yesterday and will be here till Sunday. We are staying in the cottage house (room L2) to be exact, the way the room is presented online does it no justice. We have two full bathrooms, two full separate bedrooms (which is perfect space for just sitting back for adult time with some cold beverages), the space is well worth the money, along with the service and hospitality that you receive from the staff. A huge shoutout to Jessica down at the beach. She has the patients of a saint, kids asking for this boat, that kayak and her attitude was nothing but amazing, she is just another perfect example of why this place should be rated 10 stars and not 4.

Beautiful. Stayed in Crown plaza hotel over looking lake. Lovely. Unimpressed with “walk around lake” Though. Looking for easy walk for a break “recovery day” day after hiking mt colden. The walk around the lake consisted of a view of the lake for less than 1/4 of the time. Remaining time consisted of walking through a nice neighborhood with a few glimpses of the lake through their backyards. Nice but NOT a walk around the the lake. Great area. Would definitely visit again.

Can you bring a folding chair to mirror lake public beach?
Written July 24, 2023
Many ways. There is a public beach by the ice rink end of town if you are just day tripping through. Sometimes they have a slide to go down but not sure this year with COVID. Some hotels have beaches and I recommend Golden Arrow for budget minded or Mirror Lake inn for those wanting top notch resort. The other way to go is renting a house on other side of lake that has beach access. Plenty of options.

How late into March and April does the lake stay frozen for activities on it. Understand, it's weather dependent, but generally speaking, is the lake still frozen the first week of April?

i have a race on sat. in the lake ,what are the rules for swimming on weekdays?
Written August 8, 2019
We were able to swim the course at any time during the week. It is so cool that you can clearly see and follow the cable! Good luck!!
Written August 9, 2019
Yes, that is one of the reasons we went to the area. Many hotels are pet friendly as is the town.

Are we able to bring our own kayaks to Mirror Lake? If so, where would we be able to put them in?
Thank you,
Written June 12, 2019
There is a small sandy beach where you should be able to take your kayaks to embark. parkside Street would be your nearest street.

How can you go about finding out about the dog sleds? Can you make a reservation? Will they still be running in February?
Written January 27, 2019
Dog sled rides are on mirror lake right out the back door of the Golden Arrow hotel and right next to the toboggan slide. Can't miss them.
We did not need a reservation. Just walked up, paid the sled owner and had a great ride.

The path is more of a "sidewalk" that wraps around the lake. Walk out the front door of any of the buildings on Main Street lake side and start walking in either direction. It is literally that simple!
