We stopped at Terry Robards Wine Shop on Friday. It’s owned by the Terry, the former wine critic of the New York Times, which gives it celebrity status. They have a dog who acts as a greeter. His name is Caymus. He has a dog house at the entrance!

They have an excellent selection. This includes bottles from private collections.

They have Champagnes. Plenty of rose wines. They have selections by country and a good amount Of California wines. They have a good scotch selection.

We were impressed. We bought wine and scotch.

Very nicely laid out store owned by wine writing legend Terry Robards, his wife Julie and Son Tim. The store is beautifully clean, warm and inviting. The selection was excellent, Julie knew every product they sold by heart and was more than glad to help even though it was a busy day.
I will definitely go back to this store!

You are warmly welcomed when you walk in the door, regardless of whether its your first visit or you are a regular. Everyone is knowledgeable, friendly and super helpful. The selection is great and prices are very fair. And if they don't have it, Tim can probably find it for you. The tastings they put on are excellent, always very enjoyable and educational.
You can't go wrong stopping in here!

We wanted to buy a bottle of wine to enjoy in our hotel room in Lake Placid, but we couldn't find a grocery store. Someone finally told us to go to Terry Robards, which had a very large selection of spirits and wine. A staff member guided us to some nice white New York wine, which was very good.

This store is owned and operated by The NY Times wine critic, Terry Robards and his wife, Julie. They have the knowledge and first hand experience to assist you in any capacity, whether it is entertaining or bringing a wine or liquor to take on a hike.
Staff is so friendly, you will leave smiling. Terry Robards store is a must do to celebrate Lake Placid!
If you happen to be in town on a Sunday, check to see is Julie is teaching a wine class. This is absolutely a one of a kind celebration of the culture of wine, interesting, informative and delightful!

This was an excellent and highly informative class about global wines. The range was huge, the teacher, Julie Robards, was fantastic, the wine tasting was superb. These 10-week classes are free with optional contributions. You'll rarely find such an opportunity to learn about the history, the growing of gapes, the soil and conditions for fine wines, the difference between old-world and new-world wine, the top wine-producing countries. and more. The best part is the opportunity to taste the wines and compare them.
So of you are in LAke Placid on Saturday at 2 PM, don't miss that opportunity.

Tim and the rest of the friendly staff @ Terry Robards host regular wine tastings and pairings with local foods. The wines are always good and almost always leave with a new wine for the cellar.

This is the best place to shop for wine in Lake Placid. Large store with the best selection in the area. And a few bottles open to sample if you need ideas for what to pick up, along with good advice on any wine you are interested in.

Great, clean place with plenty of selection. April is a fantastic person to chat with, especially with her almost encyclopedic knowledge of all products. Looking forward to seeing you again in a few weeks!

Without a doubt the best wine and spirits selection in the region. Owned by the former wine critic for the NY Times, and his influence is clear. Great and knowledgeable staff. Don't waste your time at the other places in town.
