About
Wilderness beauty. Adirondack history. Serenity. Cruise the pristine waters of Lake Placid in one of our enclosed pontoon boats. The hour-long, narrated tour travels 16 miles on one of the world's most beautiful lakes. See and hear about the stately manors situated along the shore, Adirondack wildlife, and Whiteface Mountain, site of the alpine events during the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. A Lake Placid boat tour is a must for all visitors to the Adirondacks. Rain or shine, it is truly a delightful experience.

Thanks to Brandon from Hoboken for the great tip about buying tickets!

Due to Covid-19, no reservations are being taken online or over the phone before the day of your desired trip (not sure why). Same day, walk-up reservations take place at their site at the lake (you don't pay,,,,you only reserve that way) or you can call after 9 the same day.
Brandon's advice: go in person and get in line by 830. So that is what I did, I grabbed a cup of coffee and headed out alone to buy tickets for my son and me. At 815 I was catching up onTwitter and drinking coffee while standing in line waiting for them to open (with a beautiful view of the lake). Promptly at 9 a very friendly guy came out and took last names, what time of tour each party wanted to take the tour and then each of us to return 15 minutes before launching to pay for our tickets. Seamless and efficient.
Brandon warned that if you wait until 9 to call, they will be sold out by then (due to the walk-up customers) and I don't doubt it, since the number of seats available on each tour are decreased due to the need for social distancing.
I saw quite a few people the afternoon of our 3 pm tour walking in and being turned away. I guess they had no idea how in demand these tours are...they are literally the only game in town.
Lovely hour plus on the lake with a very pleasant and informed tour guide. Extremely relaxing afternoon tour after a morning hunting for an open breakfast spot on the main drag (be forewarned) and then a beautiful drive up to the top of White Face Mountain.
Recommended! It's the only way to get a good sense of the lake, its history and the views of the immense shoreline.

Good reasonable Priced Boat tour.

This 1 hour tour of Lake Placid is really good, It was reasonably Priced (Especially with the Corona) Its one of the only ways to see Lake Placid. The tour was narrated. Lake Placid is very Scenic with some of the High Peaks in the background, Definatly take your camera on this tour.

I actually liked it better than the tourboats in lake George.

If you are going to Lake Placid, you should really do this. I did need a GPS to find this, it is a bit tricky to get there.

Be aware because of Corona you need to reserve in advance, they really should try to run more tours in the summer

Booking for this boat tour could be better, but I was very happy that my friend, her mom, and I were able to get on the last tour of the day during our trip in October. This tour takes you around Lake Placid to the parts of the lake that are forever wild and not accessible by road. We missed the peak foliage, but the leaves were still beautiful. The boat tour is also very interesting because some of the real estate along Lake Placid is truly extraordinary. I highly recommend working through the booking kinks to get on this tour. The experience is one of a kind.

Ok here it is, the tour itself, 4 stars for sure. Booking the tour, 2 stars. Obviously because of COVID there has been a surge of local travel, Lake Placid is jammed and as far as boat tours go this is really the only game in town.

They offer a few tours daily starting at 10 and ending at 3:30pm. Now here is the most important part, if you read nothing else, read this. DO NOT CALL TO BOOK. Get to the actual marina no later than 8:30am the day you want to go. They do not do advance booking. Stand in line and then book directly. If you call they will be sold out by 9:01 am. There is one dude there that early, he isn't friendly and he is getting the people in line first before answering the phone. The guy taking names was just a jerk, no other way to put it. It turned us off from wanting to go, but I waited in line anyway. He just demands how many, time, name and number and don't go out of order or you'll get a dirty look (like I did).

Now, the tour itself was fantastic. We had Captain Cook and he did a great job and tried to get our girls interested, talking to them and I really appreciate that. You can to see all the homes (camps) as well as the mountains, etc. It really is a nice hour on the water. Captain Cook is the reason they get 4 stars. If you're here, come for the tour for sure just be sure to plan in advance to book it and what day you want to go and show up early!

Friends suggested we take the one hour bout tour on Lake Placid. It was great.

It was a little challenging finding the marina, but we did. The one hour trip cost $20 per person. We headed out about 10:30, on schedule. The boat has a staff of two, the captain who sails the boat and the tour guide. The tour guide was very engaging. The lake is surrounded by mansions built in the Adirondack style. They have boathouses on the water. Every property is more beautiful than the last one! We learned about the history of the area, who owned the “Great Camps” back around 1910, who owns various properties today and other practical, interesting information.

There’s a part of the lake where you can shout and hear an echo as your words bounce back to you.

The tour guide kept everyone’s interest. They were enthusiastic.

Are there negatives. You need to understand how parking works. Since the boat tour operates from a marina, there are lots of boats in slips. The slips come with parking. The majority of spaces are named and reserved. The boat tour parking is closer to the road. It’s marked.

We had a great time. We recommend this activity.

We recently stayed in Lake Placid very close to the marina. Called the ticket office to see if we could purchase tickets for a tour later in the day. The young man said that was possible and since we are a family of 11 it was a good idea.
At boarding time for the 2:30 tour a lot of people were waiting and we were concerned about a crowded boat. Well young Captain Steve took our big group in a separate boat. We had an awesome cruise! The scenery is just breathtaking. Captain Steve provided us with very interesting facts and stories about the lake history, “cabins” and the people who built them. He was especially kind to the youngsters on board. We all had very enjoyable tour. Highly recommend this fun informative trip.

On a weekday before July 4th weekend - all COVID sanitary precautions observed perfectly. Our family of 6 adults and two preteens had the pleasure of taking the 1:30 pm tour with Captain Aaron Cook - he told lots of great stories and ensured we enjoyed many beautiful vistas of mountains, “camps”, Lodge’s, homes and a bit of geology. Captain Cook knows the area and personalities very well. Call the morning of your intended tour slot just after 9am and reserve your seats. We paid upon entering at 1:15pm and left promptly. The boat is comfortable, spacious, with flaps all around in case of wind and rain. No restroom on the boat, but the restroom in the ticketing office was very clean.

This boat trip was fantastic and was one of the highlights of the trip. Beautiful lake/mountain scenery and amazing summer cottages. The tour guide explained how private this lake is, with only 3 public vantage points to see Lake Placid and no commercial properties allowed except one large pricey lodge. Very interesting and relaxing tour. Would highly recommend.

This tour was perfect. Great views of lake placid with lots of commentary from our tour guide about the different camps around the lake. He was well informed about the history of the homes, made sure to stop the boat For good Photo ops and asked all of our questions.

Definitely recommend for a home looking for a calm way to spend an hour.

We had a difficult time finding the ticket office especially with the road construction in the area. The ride itself was smooth and relaxing with beautiful views of Lake Placid and the islands in the center. The captain was very knowledgeable and helpful with recommendations on things to do in the area. We enjoyed it. Price was reasonable
