Check-out was scheduled for 8am (time mentioned by email). Finally the guides arrived at 9:20.. We were afraid we missed the Check-out, so we had to call with our French number: results? 55€ off-package for 25seconds of call, to tell us that the person arrives “in a few minutes” (he arrived 1h10 later).
The island is beautiful and heavenly, the people who accompany us really warm, but the site is a lie: Check-out 8am finally 9:30am, and return mentioned at 3:30pm but finally we had to leave the island at 1:30pm. Only 2h30 on site... It’s a shame...

Cocos Island itself would be wonderful without the comments and life lessons of a guide named Paul who ruined our day. This dreamer allows himself to teach all the visitors life lessons which last at least an hour and a half. His plagiarism found on Wikipedia is more than bloated with a speech learned by heart and boring as hell. This weirdo considers himself the universal savior of the birds of this island which without him would undoubtedly be much more interesting.

It is very worth doing this excursion. Although the island is relatively close, it can only be reached by boat and it takes an hour as they go slowly over the rocks there.
Once there, they explain a little about the reason for the name of the island (cocos, means eggs in Spanish), and it is because of the number of birds that live there. They are super protective of their eggs and chicks so if you get too close they can attack you.
You can take a walk and swim in super blue and transparent waters. They also bring you prepared food: chicken, fish, rice and salad, and a drink.

Ile aux cocos is a nesting island for sea birds. A 30 mins walk/visiting the birds is enough. It takes almost 1.5 hours to reach there by small boats. The scenery is very nice. Food is restrcited to only fish and october. It will be provided by the tour guys as it's included in the package.

An amazingly well preserved nature sanctuary, where the birds literally eat out of your hands. Thousands of birds protected from the ravages of man. Kudos to the wonderful work done by the authorities and those on the island.

Initially a negative a priori of the overly commercial type (10 boats of 10 people). In the end, a pleasant two-hour round trip crossing, a decent meal. A magnificent island, a superb lagoon, a heavenly beach for swimming away from others. Birds by the thousands. And a very reasonable price of 27 euros.

The place is truly spectacular: a paradise! Guide was kind and quick in explaining. The food was great. It's definitely a trip to make.
However, it is regrettable to see a lot of garbage on the coasts of the island: with the constant presence of park guards and being a national park, this should not happen. It was absolutely the place with the most garbage in all Rodrigues

We bought our activity throught the local website for Rodrigues (marideal).

It was said that we should arrive at 09h00 and that if we were 15 mins late the deal will be void and no refund. The skipper arrived 25mins later!!!
Then 4 boats were waiting and one man come. I think he is the one managing the business between all these fishermen... He then decide who will go in which boat...
We never had any explanation or answers to our questions...
We took 1h15mins to arrive to the island (we were 13 in one pirogue, can't move at all). Once on the island still nothing said to us. I insist to have a beer because our deal was unlimited drinks (beer and rum) and the guy told me let the french go and then he will give me. Poor guys...
There was tables on the bungalow at the front looking at the beach and there was a table at the back ... near dustbins and with a lot of guanos on benches and the tables!! It was there that we are going to eat while the skippers were eating on the tables looking at the beach!!! I didn't agree, and we took our plates and beers to go to eat in the sun on the beach! There was not enough food for everyone so I manage to be served first! Poor guys one more time...
We also took 1h40 to come back to Pointe Diable....
The island really worth to be seen but may I recommend you to book your trip once on Rodrigues with a local (just ask the hotel) and ask for a pirogue (boat) only for you and negotiate to have a fast trip... Bring some good wines and beers to spend the time (of the trip) nicely!

My boyfriend and i were pretty excited about this day trip to ile aux cocos.

Pros:
1) For wildlife lovers, you would be pleased to see birds in their natural habitat, some cocooning, some in their nests, some flying around and some walking about.

2) One side of the island is less windy, hence you get to enjoy the sun and the sand, thus some sunbathing.

Cons:
1) The package says 9am-5pm. They never told us that it would be an hour and something to reach the island and thus we get to spend only 3hrs or so on the island, not a full day.

2) Only half of the island is accessible to public, as the other half is only for the birds. Quite disappointed by that actually.

3) They also never informed us that we should be wearing swim shoes as the boats do not stop near to the island. This means we had to get off the boat and walk some 800m or so, bare foot, among corals, algae and sea cucumbers and cold water.

4) When you day trip to an island, you normally imagine yourself swimming or sunbathing, but swimming definitely was not an option as that island was always surrounded by low tides.
