- Ritesh E17 contributionsGreat experienceA must place to visit especially the cave. It's very well maintained and accessibility has been well thought of. It's the most alive cave in Rodrigues:-). However, be aware that you have around 4km to cover by foot with some stairs to go up n down.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 7, 2023
- KersleyGold Coast, Australia22 contributionsI love turtles!Great place to visit if you are visiting Rodrigues. The reserve is a very special place with thousands of turtles and beautiful natural caves. Restaurant on site was nice and friendly staff. The road to the reserve was a little bit rough.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 20, 2024
- Romain SauzierPort Mathurin108 contributionsÀ must see in RodriguesA must-see in Rodrigues! Hans was an exceptional tour guide with sound knowledge of the réserve history. 🙏 Lunch was accompanied with délicious flavors of chicken curry and pork ribs, topped off with a decadent chocolaté fondant and vanilla ice-cream. All round fantastic expérience and highly recommended when visiting Ridrigues👌Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 9, 2024
- Reena C1 contributionAmazing experienceI had a great time visiting the turtle reserve and the caves. We had a very interactive lady as our guide and it was great learning more about the different types of turtles. Inside the cave as well, we discovered a lot of rock formations, with some interesting figurines. Put on some sunscreen and bring your hats when visiting the turtle reserve.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 23, 2024

To the other town on the island, two possible routes.
Difficult, dangerous and low-speed traffic. Very narrow roads.
Paid entry not particularly cheap. But guided tour lasting around an hour and a half, very well documented in the oppressive heat. Preferably come early in the morning.
Bring a hat, sunscreen, water bottle and good shoes.
The turtles are in the spotlight, some very cooperative, others asleep.
A treat for photos. Do not feed or sit on turtles.
A well-appointed cave with magnificent very old stalactites and stalamids. A feast for the eyes, some having animal shapes...
A helmet provided is mandatory, and it is justified, in certain places you have to walk crouched. Otherwise cave lit at the same time a small flashlight very useful, especially on the stairs.
Very happy to arrive at the restaurant.
Restricted but sufficient card, not particularly cheap.
Finally entering the little shop, blah! Nothing transcendent, high prices.
Very present staff.
Beautiful visit, not to be overlooked when you come to Rodrigues.

Amazing tortoises! They stand up to be petted, wonderful. You can also sponsor one and provide its food for years to come! Excellent guide, room for kids to run around. Grotto makes a nice finish to visit. Museum interesting and the video of the formation of the island was new and excellent, great overview and grabs attention of eight-year-olds. Restaurant had good service and good food.

More than worth a visit.
Entrance €12 pp.
The guide was Stephanie and our entire group spoke French, but she gave us an English explanation of everything that was discussed, which was really pleasant.
Large park and nice to see how the animals can live naturally and how the breeding program works.
The turtles are really amazing, they come up to you to be tickled and literally stick their necks out for you.
A special thing to experience, as soon as you stand still you can see them walking towards you.
There are quite a lot of them.
Then a nice walk to the caves and a tour through them as well.
There is a museum and a restaurant (also recommended for lunch afterwards), toilets and a shop.
A really great visit for us.

A really great project. The travel turtles are allowed to be touched, the entire facility is designed very open and it is also fun.
Our tour guide unfortunately had a very large, mostly French speaking group, so the English comments have often fallen short... Recommendation Ask for the language of the tour beforehand...
The adjoining stalactite cave is nothing special and you can save it from my point of view.

Definitely worth a visit - guide (Billy) was really knowledgeable and passionate, making the visit even more special. The reserve is very well run, with opportunities to get up close and personal with tortoises, and also visit a spectacular cave.
There is parking available, and a shop and restaurant on site too.

The guide was much more professional than the one we met on Cocos Island and therefore had a fascinating tour on the life of these turtles. Being able to pet them is a plus. No smell of bird droppings, no animal aggression like Cocos Island. Exciting and enriching unlike the visit mentioned above.

The visit to François Leguat Reserve was enriching and fun.
We first visited the tortoises and were allowed to interact with them. They were roaming freely in the Reserve!
The cave was an awesome experience! It was safe! I even took my 3year old and a 4 months old with me inside. There were ramps to walk which made it fairly easier. It was sooooo interesting!
The guide was best! He explained so well! He actually kept us hooked to the whole experience. There wasn’t a minute of boredom! Shoutout to guide Wayne!

At the very end of the island, right next to the airport. (not easy to get there by bus from Anse Ally because change at Mont Lubin then another at the Farm.) we almost missed the start of the guided tour (4 visits per day.) Great attempt to save the turtles, including the immense Aldabra giant tortoise. Their number has increased tenfold in a few years. The visit is a little long, but you can walk among all the turtles and a few straws in their tails. The visit ends with a visit to a cave for 20 minutes. We couldn't see the bat aviary. Damage. A restaurant is located on site. Fair price and good atmosphere.

How come nobody mentions that the road to this place is not possible to drive in a normal car? Very VERY rough track like wasteland with huge pot holes only suitable for a 4 x4. We followed all the signs, near the airport turn off down a road with a big sign and arrow. A little further on there's another big sign with arrow. Finally a smaller sign saying 600m and an arrow pointing to this horrible rocky track. We drove a little way but our small hirecar could not manage it. We thought we must have the wrong road, have NEVER seen an attraction approached by a road that can date the car. But we couldn't find any other road. We were very disappointed, we had very much wanted to visit and had come specially and then we just could not manage to approach it!!!!!!

The last part of the road was surprisingly bad. We managed with a scooter to get there.

The tortoise park is in Rodrigues, though I understand there is another tortoise conservation park in Mauritius.

hi Lisa,
I travelled by plane, its a 1h30 flight on a small ATR70's and the fastest way to reach there.
You can also travel by boat, but it takes around 24hrs and not as frequently available.
hope it helps...and bon voyage to Rodrigues ;-)

Well you need to pay to get in, to view the tortoises, and extra for the tour of the Grande Caverne. There can be organized pre-booked tours which mean you have a short wait for the next available tour. You can probably book in advance if you want to run a tight schedule but I have been many times, paid cash at the desk, and never had to wait longer than it takes to drink a coffee in the restaurant.
