Special Place
Aug 2018 • Solo
I've been coming for years and years to this historical place. It is a retreat and a camp. Bare bones. Good food. Wonderful workshops. A place to explore self. To learn about the world through simplicity. To the left is the faint reminding sound of the city, to the right, utter peace. The day people can be a nuisance but once I was a day visitor. Now, I like to stay for a few days and listen to the sounds of night. Nothing like a massage beside the lake. I like the writing and the art. I love the music. It is a place to escae the tech world, read, languor, and find peace. And meet very special people.

Weekend Get Away
Jun 2018
Fantastic Women's Retreat. Beautiful, relaxing spot right on Lake George, NY. The food was delicious. The one downside was that the main building is the only one with air conditioning. The other buildings supply fans in the bedrooms, but they can still get uncomfortable trying to sleep on a hot summer night. Loved the screened in porches for rocking and watching boats on the lake. Very Restful.

Very mixed experience
Aug 2017 • Friends
Our arrival felt like an imposition, our request for a fire felt like even more of an imposition, we were shushed more than once while enjoying each others company, and our house felt like Grand Central Station with other guests from other homes hanging out in our living space and using our rest rooms, which left us with no toilet paper and overflowing garbage cans.
On the positive side, the food was very good and the grounds are beautiful.

Beautiful location, good music
Jul 2017 • Friends
We had dinner (nothing special, though salad was terrific)--it was a bit hard to find a seat to eat and attendees were not particularly friendly, thought the staff was. The music performance was lovely (base, violin and piano) and the setting was unbelievable. Despite the chill (60s) and dampness from the rain, the seats were just fine and the view spectacular. It's the way I remember Lake George as a child. So worth the visit.

A special place for special people
Jul 2017 • Friends
This women's retreat is so special but it is not a 5-star resort. You must share bathrooms, meals, sleep in a twin bed in buildings without air-conditioning. Sort of like being in camp. What will you get in return. A magical experience with phenomenal views of Lake George, make new friends, take interesting workshops & just relax with nature. Some members of my book club went together.

A retreat from heaven
Jul 2016 • Solo
I was an artist in residence, along with seven other artists, for a week at Wiawaka, and it was a magical experience. The grounds and view of the lake were inspiring, and the hospitality and warmth of the staff made the visit even better. Highly recommended for anyone!

Serenity on the Lake
Jul 2016 • Friends
Wiawaka is a peaceful retreat on Lake George. The grounds are immaculate, with peaceful walks through a fairy forest or a contemplative meditation in the Cretan labyrinth. There are many places to sit and relax. It is also right on the water so the views is spectacular. The buildings are gorgeous, full of history of Lake George. This is a retreat center as well, so you may want to call before coming to make sure the grounds are available to the public that day. This is a VERY special place!

The quintessential summer getaway for women
Aug 2014 • Friends
There is an awesome vibe at Wiawaka. An ongoing summer retreat for working women from the Troy collar factories. Although the clientele has changed a wee bit, the energy, spirit and sense of sisterhood has not. A breathtaking expanse of Lake George (undeveloped and turn of the century) welcomes you to unwind, relax, reflect, draw, paint, swim, paddle, read or ponder your navel. Come for the day and wander the grounds. Enroll in a workshop and explore something new. Choose a cottage bedroom and stay the weekend. Stay for lunch (farm fresh to table food- summer picnic style). Meet kindred spirits. Gentlemen are allowed in July in the company of a woman. August is female only. Wiawaka is a treasure not to be missed.

Bliss
Aug 2014
UNIQUE "women's retreat" on a jaw-dropping, expansive lakefront property. Three historic Victorian buildings, plus accommodations in two others, including the recently restored Waconda House.

Stay or get a day pass for $15.00. No men, no kids. BLISS.

Meals can be purchased separately. Many life enrichment and exercise programs available. See website.
