    Beautiful Views
This was a nice easy drive to catch the beautiful views of the lake in a different perspective. It costs $10 per car but no one was at the gate to collect money when we went on a Thursday. We made our stops along the way for photo opportunities. We also went to the very top parking lot. We highly recommend taking the road (which is closed off to cars) to walk up to the summit vs the steep trail depending on your group’s ability.

    Beautiful Views at All Stops!
We were told that there is a $10 fee to enter the drive. But when we arrived at the outpost, there was no one manning it! 😆 For Nature lovers! The road is well paved 2 lanes with stones for side rails. Going up the outlooks are well marked. Each outlook has it's own particular view of the area and of the Lake. The top parking spot is huge. There is a comfort station (solar powered) that is unfortunately closed (?due t covid?) In it's place are two porta potties.☹️ Sorry no pictures. You know how they look (and smell) The road, starting from the level of the top parking spot, to the top of the mountain is closed. You can hike up there. It is not that steep, strenuous, or long. I have bad knees and I manage to do it- slowly. At the top you get to see some relics from the past and a beautiful view of the lake. There are no tables and chairs for picnics. They have been all shuttered and stored due to covid. At the top, you could see unused grills and tables and chairs stored in a shed. If you need a relatively flat place to eat, some of the rock boundaries are relatively flat. If you drive to the far end of the parking lot, there is a flat stone wall (which separates another parking lot) which you can use as a sort of table. A very nice lazy drive with great views.

    Beautiful scenic outlook!
A moderate hike with some inclines and lots of rocks (like a stream bed), but not bad. The access road was closed to traffic and the trail entrance is in a different location where you take a bridge over the highway. You can walk the access road, but it is longer than taking the trail. Note that the bridge is a bit prickly on the feet for pets. I think it's that way for winter season to provide grip and avoid slipping, but our grand dog was very apprehensive and shaking as we went across. It's pretty long and he is 90 lbs, so we couldn't carry him. We hiked the trail until we got to the access road (about 25 mins). We walked a short distance on the road to the right to the scenic outlook and had a spectacular view of Lake George! It was such a beautiful day. We hear this view is better than going to the top. We did not hike to the top but were told we were about 1/3 - 1/2 way to the top once you reach the road. No matter how far you hike, it’s beautiful!

On a beautiful October morning we set off at 9AM to drive up Prospect Mountain. There is currently no fee to drive up, and it is open (weather pending) until Veteran's Day.
Stop #1 is good. Stop #2 is spectacular. Stop #3 has limited views, but we stopped briefly. At the top there is a large parking lot with 2 trails from the lot. There was a very nice man we spoke with sitting in a car where the 2 paths take off to answer questions and count cars. The Sunday before 800 cars had come up. That is a financial loss of $8,000.00. Sad. The trail to the left is shorter and steeper. The road to the right is longer and easier. We took the road.
Nice views at the top...but the fog had come in so it was more limited. On the way back down the hill we again stopped at #2 to see how it had changed since we had first stopped.
Definitely a must do when you are in the area!!

We did the 3-mile round trip hike of Prospect Mountain and followed the red markers. Though the trail was steep and challenging at times, it was so worth the reward of a panoramic view of Lake George once you reach the top.

Bring hiking sticks, lots of water and bug repellant. Don't forget to sign in and out at the start of the trail and take note of the emergency number.

We went here and drove up to as far as you can drive. There was no shuttle when we went because it was a weekday after Columbus day so we walked up the rest of the way. The walk was definitely worth it. The views of the lake and surrounding areas were unbelievable just breathtaking worth the walk up.

Not much to add. Great views. Easy to find; just google Prospect Mountain Highway or Veterans Memorail Highway, Prospect mountain.
Currently free to enter and drive up and park. Otherwise there is a fee, and it would be well worth paying.
There are about 4 lookouts of varying degrees of "oooh" factor on the way up. Stop if you wish. The real views are from the top. They call it the 100 mile view and man, they may be right. There is loads of parking at the top, then a long easy to climb paved road to walk around to the summit or a shorter but steeper set of stairs and a trail just to the left. Either will get you there. Once you are there, you are in for a stunning view of the Lake and surrounding adirondacks. At the right time of year (we went in autumn) the colors are gorgeous, esp. if there is a blue sky. World class beautiful.

Prospect Mt is always a must stop whenever visiting Lake George. Simply beautiful...the 3 stops on the ride up offer differant vantage points of the lake. The shuttle bus to the summit is currently not running which makes entry free...short hike to top.

For $10 you drive up a well maintained road to a large parking area at the top. There are a couple of areas you can stop and take in the view on the way up. Then a short 10 minute hike to the summit is worth the effort. The summit has grills and tables. It is a shame that the road closes at 5. It can be casually done in an hour and 1/2. We arrived at 3:30 and stayed until they told us to leave. Would have stayed longer if they let us.

There is usually a nominal car fee to drive up. There are hiking trails. A number of overlooks allow you to see different vistas. The day we visited, the trolley to the very top was not running but the attendant was allowing appropriately marked handicapped vehicles to drive up where the trolley normal goes. Your option is to walk up the road or take the steeper path. The path/trail is much shorter but requires you to be in relatively good shape. Good shoes, sneakers or hiking boots are recommended. The path is blacktopped but is not pristine. Flat sandals or flip flops not recommended. The views are wonderful and there are some ruins and places to picnic. A great view of Lake George is to be found.

We took the drive to Prospect Mountain on a beautiful clear day. At the time of our drive, they were not charging the $10 entrance fee. There were several places to pull off and take in the views of Lake George. At the last stop, visitors can park and take the hike to the top, but the views on the way up are spectacular, if it's not something you choose to do or can physically do.

The people running this mountain attraction are ridiculously overcautious. They close the road when it gets foggy or clouds roll in. We tried twice to visit the summit in the span of one week, and were stopped short both times. The first time we were going to walk to the summit on the trail at the top parking lot and a lady stopped us due to fog. Said it was too dangerous. The second visit, the road was closed at stop 3. We give up. Never coming here again. We realize there would be no view, but still wanted to reach the summit. We've hiked mountains all over the world, in way worse than a bit of fog. Seriously ridiculous.

We were lucky to have a break in the rain during our visit, and decided to take the quick trip up the mountain. If you have 20-30 minutes to kill, and want a quiet, peaceful view, go for it! I believe it costs $10 per car most of the time, but they weren't charging when we went. Some of our best pictures came from this little side trip!
