Lots of local info is readily available here. Don't miss the small upstairs mini-museum with pics and paraphenalia from the past. Even the bricks and bluestone that used to be part of the areas economy are to be found. Enjoyed learning more about the area.

Tip: one of the few public bathrooms in the area. But that is not the reason to go - staff is friendly and knowledgeable, they have a modest historical exhibit, and they have a real wealth of tourist info, not only for the immediate area, for for other parts of the state. Foolish to be in the area for tourism... More

The Heritage Area Visitors Center is conveniently located in the Rondout-West Strand Historic District. The friendly, helpful staff answered questions and guided us to the appropriate brochures and maps. We were traveling to Columbia County, and they had plenty of information on that area, too. The Center has public restrooms, and there is ample parking.

See historic photos of the local area and pick up maps and tourist information. We took a walking tour of the Rondout area which met here.

The title basically says it all, but we got some good information from there, and was able to use the restrooms, so it's all good.

This visitor center by the waterfront has a wealth of information about the area. Especially useful are self guided walking tours of the city. Helpful maps and info about dining, activities, etc. Free parking in municipal parking lot near center.

The Visitor Center at the waterfront is a jewel.Staffed by friendly people. Well stocked with literature. As a result, however, it stands out like a sore thumb in what is basically a slum. The waterfront walkway (basically old railroad tracks) was overgrown with ankle-high weeds. People walking around muttering to themselves; we decided not to sit at the gazebo and... More
