We didn't visit the lighthouse per se'. We took a boat cruise on the Hudson River, and passed slowly by this lighthouse. The cruise is definitely worth a trip, and you get to see a few lighthouses.

If you enjoy the tranquil beauty of a lighthouse, then this one is a must-see. The current structure was built-in 1913 & it was 1st lite-up in 1915. To see the lighthouse you can take a boat tour that originates at the Hudson River Museum or by walking the Kingston Point Rail Trail.…

A beautiful lighthouse in a gorgeous setting. Got there by a solar powered boat. It was a 10/15 minute, leisurely ride. The guide took us into the lighthouse and talked to us about the history of it. We got a fabulous view from the top. To get there I took the Trailways bus from NYC to Kingston and then walked. It took about an hour to walk down to the lighthouse. It was a lovely day out.…

Having been to a lot of lighthouses on the coast & the Great Lakes, it was a unique experience to be in a lighthouse that has no land surrounding it, no vegetable garden possible. The river is the front, side, & backyard! The guide, Gene, was excellent & brought the lighthouse keeper families to life. If you're a fan of lighthouses, sailing, or shipping, be sure to visit the Rondout Lighthouse.…

There are two ways for tourists to look at this lighthouse that I know of... The Rip Van Winkle boat tour offers a chance to cruise past Rondout Light and other sights along the Hudson River on a larger boat. But to actually visit the lighthouse you need to take a smaller boat from the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Their fully solar powered "Solaris" was designed and built in their shop and can transport a couple dozen people. The crew was all very friendly and professional and the guide did a superb job of explaining the history of the area and guiding us through the lighthouse. It was a great outing and the tour cost also includes your admission to the museum. Highly recommended for anyone that loves history and lighthouses.…
