Grand disappointment
Jul 2017 • Family
The hotel is old but has its charm and tons of potential, the entrance is grand but it ends there. The golf course is closed with no notification and both pools have been shutdown by the county due to some sanitary issue. My six year old was very disappointed. We were in the area for a convention and I promised him that I would take him to the pool Saturday morning to be greeted but a closure sign at the entrance of the pool. Front desk personnel did not inform us and when I complained they passed the blame

adequate
Sep 2016 • Business
Chief purpose of visit was a conference that i annually attend. This building is old and in need of definite upgrades and repairs. Elevators are inadequate for the number of rooms. Certain wings of this facility need ac upgrades as ac repeatedly has failed numerous room have musty moldy smell. However on the plus side the dining is always a pleasure as there is variety to meet various needs and allergies. Wait Staff is courteous and always friendly. They do a awesome cook out :) including steaks. They have a pool and Jacuzzi They accommodate very large conferences . however could use additional staffing upon arrivals. They have a stage and auditorium with sound boards and lights. Seating is never an issue. They have an on site bar with entertainment also. They have a golf store and access for golfing. They however need to fix vending machines as they malfunction a lot.

Wonderful Time at the old HVR resort
Aug 2015
I am a Platinum Choice hotel member which means I stay in over 20 hotels per year for Choice hotels and it is more like 30 hotels/year. All hotels are for pleasure trips only. The HVR is a good hotel close with clean and bright rooms I would recommend staying there. Positive: great old hotel from the 50's and great staff. Hotel room is clean and bright and no one was there on 600 acres of land. Negatives: Breakfast is a maybe but we got some so it was fine- based on if there is enough people. Windows in our room had fogged windows whole time due to moisture in glass- beautiful 8th floor view of mountains ruined. If you like old hotels with a ghost town feeling like we do, you will love this resort- old broken but no dead. We loved it. Nice pool and great Spa to use free. Best fitness room I have ever seen at a hotel. I would recommend a family or couple staying here without hesitation. If you read this review click the green helpful box under the review thanks.

It could / should be renovated
Aug 2015 • Family
we've been going there for 20 years on & off; but the carpets need immediate attention, you can tell there's mold in many of them, especially towards the Maples section of the Hotel. That section should definitely be banned from being used because of the poor bathrooms (our toilet wouldn't flush). This was our first time at the Maples section of the Hotel - to be avoided at all cost! Other than that what makes the makes attractive is the surroundings!

This Place Is Creepy
If they were going to make a sequel to the "Shining" this is the perfect place. I expected to see the ghost of Hennie Youngman at any moment.
We came up from New Paltz to use the "day spa" and see about staying over.
The place was deserted, dirty and the staff unkept and unfriendly.
If you painted Chicago's public housing white, threw in a few tacky Greek and Roman statues and dumped it in the middle of the Hudson Valley ... you'd have Hudson Valley Resort and Spa.
Talk about false advertising. The photos in the ads and the Web site are obviously "stock" ... because the only thing "slick" about this place is the advertising.
Not that there is anything wrong with it but the massage therapist was in her late 70's.
The help is helpless. The steam room and jacuzzi filthy and broken.
If you like run down, tasteless hotels and you dig Norman Bates... this is the perfect place for you.
