loved it. a low key family experience with a freat view but without all the extra charges. Super simple check out. Ive been to orchards where they complicate things and charge extra. i just wanted apple picking- not a 3 ring circus. this was perfect!

Wightman's Fruit Farm is a labor of love, obsession, esthetics, and pomo-mania. It's creator and owner, John Wightman, knows virtually everything about his beloved fruit, and is delighted to impart it all to the visitors to his private vision of Eden--glorious trees of more than 100 varieties, some dating to the 14th century. Sample them right off the tree, leave with bags of delights. Hurry though--the season won't last too much longer.

Farmer John and his family are the most welcoming, brilliant and engaging farmer you will ever meet. A man who will share his passion and knowledge freely and happily. Honestly I’ve been all over America picking apples and I’ve never been blown away like this by the farm, farmer and variety. A rare American treasure.

John and Lori Wightman's orchard is a tidy and intimate operation in a lovely part of the state. John has 116 varieties of heirloom apples, including our favorite, the Cherrytown Special, a graft from George Griner's famous apple #2. The apples are delicious, and the landscape and views of the Shawangunk Ridge from the upper orchard are spectacular. A bi-weekly visit to the orchard would be necessary to truly experience everything on offer, though they do stash varieties picked at peak in their cooler for enjoyment well into the winter...The small bag (around 10 lbs) is $10, and the large bag is $20. Great conversation with John was gratis.

When fall comes to New York State our family starts planning which weekend we will go to Wightman's. I cannot see any reason to visit any other orchard.
Super-nice family business
A hundred variety of apples, from the well-known to the obscure
Supremely knowledgeable pomologist / crop advisor
Superb views of the Shawangunk ridge and surrounding valley
A precisely calibrated cooler room so that apples that need to be picked earlier in the season are still available for us when we visit
No tour buses
No admission fee or hay rides, no pumpkins, no cider doughnuts, no corn maze, no pets
Apples + Autumn + Hudson Valley = Wightmans.
Turn off of your computer and go. But please don't tell too many of your friends.

Beautiful and well-organized orchard. The owners are very friendly, and happy to share their encyclopedic knowledge of apple varieties and history. They're keeping the heirlooms alive and producing fabulous apples!

Lots of varieties of apple and clearly marked for you to see. The hidden gem are the grapes! Absolutely delicious. This was a really cool farm to stop and pick without the crowds and gimmicks. Go now!

We had a lovely time at Wightmans! The owners were so friendly and had just adopted 10 week old Bella puppy (she’s worth the trip alone)! There are so many orchard varietals of every apple imaginable and huge amounts left to choose from. It’s an uphill orchard so the views of the mountains from the top are gorgeous! They have fresh grape vines too - for concord and Niagara. There’s a fresh water spring at the end of the road turn off too so it’s really a one stop shop before hittin the road. Great for families or a date spot. Highly recommend!
