Great reward with little risks. You get beautiful views with a low level of intensity or danger. This is a very well kept trail and suitable for any level of experience.

I highly recommend the Gertrude's Nose hike! The trails were very well signed. Be aware that on a beautiful fall day during peak leaf peeping time, the park will be packed and you most likely will have to park at the base parking and hike...More

Beautiful park, but it was so overcrowded we had to leave and lost our $10. There was no place to park, and the porta potties were overflowing and disgusting. There should be a limit to how many people can enter in the fall. They are supposed...More

Took our 8 month granddaughter on the Red Loop trail around the Lake. Fantastic views around every curve/switchback. Moderate walk with a lot to see in an easy hike.

Carriage roads are wide, with gravel beds, so the only real exertion is elevation. My wife and I did the Lake Minnewaska carriage road, with a 32% elevation, and did fine. We also loved the Beacon Hill carriage road (17% elevation), and the the wonderful...More

The park is open, trails might be closed for hiking due to snow, but there is snowshoeing. The trail around the lake can be done in an hour.

Minnewaska State Park Preserve Or Mohonk Preserve (6 Replies)
Hi, We are visiting the New Paltz for one day from NJ. Can anyone suggest which one we should visit, Minnewaska State Park Preserve Or Mohonk Preserve. We shall be getting 5 plus hours, I think. Both places have nice reviews and I am not able to decide which one I should go. Any suggestions please!

Both are pretty and which you choose depends on your budget and what type of activities you want to do. Minnewaska is I believe $9 now for a car while it costs $21/$26 per adult (weekday vs weekend) to hike at Mohonk. Be aware that the hiking pass does not allow you access to the Mountain House - for that you need to purchase dining or one of their other packages (for reference, breakfast buffet is $45/adult and lunch costs $64/adult and add tax and a 15% admin fee). (we personally never...More

Minnewaska question (16 Replies)
Hi! My family of three has plans to visit Minnewaska State Park Preserve this Sunday. Is it $10 to park? We plan on bringing our lunch. Are there picnic tables or is there some logical spot for us to sit and eat?.... if yes, is it somewhere near the parking area or the Visitor's Center? Thanks!
