This is a beautiful pristine park that has something for everyone. I highly recommend everyone pack a picnic and explore for the day! I would bring or wear footwear that you can cool off in the clear crisp streams that are bubbling through the trails.

We visited Awosting Falls, and then walked up to Minnewaska Lake, over to Kempton Ledge, back on the east side of the lake, and then back down to the lower parking lot. The trails are very wide (they call the "carriage trails"), and easy to...More

what else do you need to know; Minnewaska is gorgeous; historic; great for kids or couples, or solo hikes.

This is the one the most beautiful preserves I have ever been to. There are so many beautiful books and crannies I can even describe. A breathtaking trail is to the waterfalls. The waterfall trail is pretty short down to the bottom. You can push...More

Lots of options for hiking. Day trips, weekenders, short runs. Bring your own map, handouts are lame.

Spent about 5 hours hiking the area. Didn’t go to Awosting Falls but took the longer trails. Took a bit of ‘on backs’ to find Gertrude’s nose. The view was absolutely breathtaking and though the air was chilly I would have happily stayed there to...More

There are all levels of walk/hike at Minnewaska, everything from level walks on the carriage paths to rough trails big and small loops within the park. Destinations to waterfalls, lakes and beautiful views of the Hudson Valley or The Catskills.

See my photo below, a bit of a walk from the parking lot, free for New York State residents, but well worth the walk. I took my time, I'm over 70, and enjoyed the views all the way to the falls.

Yes. Be advised that during the fall/winter months, however, this can be quite dangerous with leaves, wet and slick conditions, ice or snow! Now, this is obviously not a problem. However, it is a busy time of year, so go... More
