A rare opportunity to 'fly' a jet fighter
Jun 2019
. I think this kind of motion simulator is a rarity. There is an option to fly a Boeing 737 airliner – though it is a rather dated model I think – or a McDonnell Douglas F4 Phantom jet fighter. I chose the F4. The simulator was used by the RAF for many years and includes the hydraulic rams and mechanisms to move the cockpit around in response to the controls. Peter the Instructor briefed me before we began, describing the positions and functions of the main instruments and controls. I should say here that I am a qualified pilot, so I knew what he was talking about, but I have never flown a jet, or a complex beast like the F4. I am sure that briefings and experience would be tailored carefully to take into account previous experience or the lack of it. I was settled in the cockpit and Peter closed the canopy, covering it with a cloth so that my field of view was limited to the runway lying ahead. The flight included two approaches to Aberdeen Airport, a low-level dash to the coast and out to sea; a scary landing on an aircraft carrier, a night return flight to Aberdeen and an approach in bad weather, followed by a final similar one where Peter helpfully added in a crosswind. I couldn’t have asked for a more varied and challenging 60 minutes at the controls. I was sweating a bit at the end. Real Simulations is a very professional setup, though quite small. In fact Peter was the only person that I saw. I can’t wait to go back for another go.

Amazing experience - young and old
May 2019 • Family
My grandson, despite flying a dozen or so times suddenly developed a fear of flying with only a few weeks to go to our "big holiday" which is when I decided to book him on the Boeing 737 simulator. Peter was his Captain for this session and was fantastic with him, explaining the aircraft instruments,he talked him through take off and landings, in daylight and at night and various details of how the plane operates and much more. It was a very good experience also for myself and my son-in-law as passengers as well as informative and we all learnt a lot from a very experienced and talented Captain. We are now all looking forward to our holiday and my grandson although a little apprehensive has gained much more confidence to fly again and of course he was delighted to have had the experience first hand. A big thank-you to Peter and Adrian - you have made a difference

A great experience - even if you're only a passenger!

We bought a flight simulator experience for a friend's birthday and were made very welcome when we delivered him to the venue. Every effort is made to ensure the experience is a special one. The booking process was very straightforward and the instructor was excellent. Would definitely return and can highly recommend.

I bought the Phantom F4 simulator experience for my partner who is a Phantom enthusiast.
Everything was fantastic. When booking I was informed of all options. A charming man who was very helpful. On the day the instructor was brilliant. I went with my partner and felt included throughout and was as enjoyable for me too. My partner emerged from cockpit with a massive grin. Everything explained in detail and very interesting whether you're an enthusiast or not.
Thank you Real Simulator, Harrogate for a wonderful experience.

Enjoyable experience
Mar 2017 • Couples
Bought my husband this experience as a gift for his birthday, a gift certificate and details arrived in the post which was nice to be able to tell him more about the gift.
On arrival coffee was offered and the use of toilets was available.
All the organisers were very polite and friendly, the older gentleman who was to be with my husband during his flight simulator was an old war veteran who knew his stuff and enjoyed sharing stories from the good old days with you.
My husband opted for the phantom flight and was shown the basics and given a run through the equipment he would be using.
Then it was off to the simulator, I was allowed to sit and watch, but let me warn you the excitement is for the person taking part, I was a little bored.
My husband really enjoyed flying the phantom and was in the air for just over an hour, with the support from radio control ( the old gentleman)
He did a few take off's and landings, night flying, bad weather and more!
Just over two hours later we were back on the road, with a happy husband.

737 Flight
Feb 2017 • Solo
Booked at short notice so got a good price for my hour flight time. Received a good 30min introduction and review of the flight controls with lots of stories from the knowledgeable retired pilot. Had a great hour in the simulator with several take offs and landings (day time, night time, fog and engine failure).
Great experience and would recommend a go. They also have an Fi phantom and a race car simulator.

Phantom F4 this time B737 next!

We booked this along with a weekend stay in Harrogate, Real Simulation is only a 15 minute drive from the town so it was a perfect base for us.
The day starts with a coffee and a bit of form filling before you enter the hangar, then comes the pre-flight briefing by Jim who makes thing sound so easy.
I did this with my brother & we had 30 minutes each at the controls and for me this was enough on the F4, we also had our better halves with us and they were able to sit in on the briefing and also sit by Jim watching what he was putting us through on the real time monitor.
We were also lucky enough to have a look in the 737 simulator and that was enough to convince us that a return visit was needed for a more in depth inspection.
All in all it was an excellent experience that I would recommend as a present to any aviation nut like myself.
If I was being really picky it would be about the lack of refreshments in the hangar, there is a water dispenser but a cup of tea or coffee wouldn't have gone amiss

Brilliant birthday gift for 13 year old
Oct 2016 • Family
Just spent a brilliant two hours with my 13 year old son on the F4 flight simulator! The instructor, a former pilot, spent an hour going through the controls of the F4 while also discussing flying procedures, flight characteristics and even trivia about the F4. The flight simulation was great with several flights in many different conditions and the hour flew by! I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in flying!
