- Shirley AElkton, Maryland149 contributionsInteractive ExperienceWe didn’t know what to expect when visiting. It’s an interactive venue which adds fun to a museum. While purchasing the tickets online I had to select a time. When we arrived, I told the employee I had a time for 4pm. She told me they do not have times set and it would take a couple of hours to experience all of it. I’m glad we were early because it definitely takes a couple of hours to experience.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 13, 2023
- BHM7248Webster, New York94 contributionsVery Interesting ConceptInnovative idea, well executed with small exceptions. Loved the Johnny Carson video, and the Carl Reiner exhibit. Didn't need the whoopie cushion thing, though. They offer a combination offer for the Center and the Lucy-Desi Museum at a reduced price, but, for some reason, they require committing to a time of when you will arrive at the Center. Often hard to predict, so I declined. If you decline that offer but mention why at the register for the Center they may reduce the ticket price. I appreciated that.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 5, 2024
- rjwv90Martinsburg, West Virginia90 contributionsIt’s good to see with the Lucy MuseumIt was good. I wouldn’t say great. There’s a lot of info on older comedians and comediennes. From Joan Rivers to Carl Reiner. There is a “Blue Room” for those 21+ and that was funny. The other displays gave a chuckle, if that. There are places to tell jokes and do karaoke.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 13, 2024
- Susan S26 contributionsFun in Jamestown, NYI was drawn to the area by Chatuagua Lake and then realized there was a National Comedy Center in Jamestown, NY. I spent several hours laughing, reminiscing, and doing hands-on activities. I went with several friends from the Skyline Drive Corvette Club, and we all enjoyed how well the center was set up.Visited September 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 16, 2024

The museum is just a few years old. It covers the history of comedy in America on stage, radio and later on television. $28 seems step, but you can easily spent 4+ hrs in there and "play" with all the interactive displays. There is a "blue room" downstairs, which is interesting, but really for mature audience only. The touchscreens and interactive displays were a little too complicated for some older visitors, but anyone 30 years and younger will be enjoying this very much.

The museum is in a run down part of Jamestown and the parking lot isn’t on the same site as the museum.
The museum itself looks nice and polished.
There are clear policies on mask usage and pens are given out for the interactive screens.
The other policies though, the staff seem to making them up as they go, dependent on what member of staff you’re interacting with.

When I told my husband that I wanted to go to The National Comedy Center he was like... oh great, another boring museum... how wrong he was!! This place is awesome!! It’s very interactive and unlike any museums we’ve visited in the past. He had a blast! They’ve taken great measures with COVID to make you feel safe. They give you a stylus, earbuds and a wristband to interact with the displays.. The technology is just amazing and makes for a great experience throughout the museum! We spent about 3 hours there and have already talked about going back because we are sure we’ve probably missed something!

This may be an out of the way place but well worth the visit. There’s plenty to see. Before entering you can set up a personal profile selecting comedians you like. The museum has interactive kiosks that will give you video clips based off your profile. Rather neat. Plenty of things to see and view here. You can easily spend more than two - three hours at this venue.

What a treasure. The museum is huge and covers so many aspects of comedy - from Tv and Movies, to comics, standup, blue comedy and more. The building itself is lovely and it flows easily with many interactive exhibits.
There is an area for alcohol and very few snacks...don't expect much. They really could offer other sandwiches, salads and lighter refreshments so one doesn't have to leave the museum for lunch (there's so much to see..who wants to leave). The eating area is not well marked at all and is at the far end of the trip through the exhibits.
Otherwise...it was a good day.

The National Comedy Center is an impressive place. The layout of the museum is very nice, and they have so many interactive exhibits. They present the different aspects of comedy in very creative ways. I loved it all. I spent a lot more time here than I had thought I would, there is so much to do. I’m pretty sure anyone would enjoy this place, there is something for everyone. I highly recommend!

This is just a wonderful, fun filled experience that is a must go to! Lots of interactive displays and the best exhibits you can imagine. Where else would you ever be able to see Charlie Chaplin's cane? If you have ever seen him in a movie (who has not) then you have watched him twirl that cane. Save a few hours to spend as time will go quickly!

A lot of museums try to incorporate technology into their exhibits but it ends up being inconvenient or not maintained well. I was really impressed with the excellent way technology was used in the exhibits here. I've been to hundreds of museums and this is the best implementation I've seen. I also loved the redundant displays, this allowed multiple people to interact with the same exhibit without crowding or waiting for exhibits too long. Everything was also clean and well maintained so it was a good value as well.

Great experience at this gem in Jamestown. Spend about 4 hours touring the different sections, and we could have done it for longer, but were heading to the Lucille Belle museum before it closed.
Interactive exhibits, surprising jokes galore, techie vibe.
Do not miss it!

If you like and appreciate both today's and past comedy, you'll love this museum. So much to see, do and watch and they've really set this museum up as a wonderful interactive experience. Well worth the trip to Jamestown and the price is great.

Will young children enjoy this museum? I have children aged 5, 7, 9, 12 and 13. (Older ones too, but these are the ones I'm concerned with)
Written September 27, 2020
They do have certain displays set up for children but I am not sure they would be as entertained as adults by the history

How
much time is recommended to spend there?
Written July 13, 2019
I would've been fatigued at 4 hours. We did 2.5 and that was good enough for me, but the other reviewers are correct in that there is lots of interactivity so if you want to spend 4 hours, it's easily done.

Can you do this with kids? I am looking on their website and here at the reviews. I'm thinking I may pass when we do our summer road trip this year. It looks amazing, but it Just doesnt look kid friendly. The Lucy/ Desi Museum seems better for kids. What do you guys think?
Written February 25, 2019
The Comedy Center is Hi-Tech, and interactive, the stuff kids would love. The Blue Room (adult humor) is off limits to the little ones, so no fear there. We did all the Lucy stuff, even though its kid friendly, it is not what kids would be interested in, it would be difficult to find a kid who knows who Lucy is! It really isn't that entertaining for adults. Small and very limited. We went because the tickets covered it. Sadly, nothing memorable there. Kids would be bored senseless.
