About
Hallock State Park Preserve is a mile long beach with accompanying woods, freshwater ponds and fields. The park has quite a diverse history from being a summer camp, to farming, to the potential site of a nuclear power plant.

We went blueberry picking at a farm nearby and then we decided to fit in a short hike to the beach. There are a couple of different paths and all are very easy. The longest hike is about 1 mile or so. We had a stroller with us and it was difficult to push once we arrived at the sandy beach. Great location, loads of parking. Make sure you pay the $8 parking fee or else you're looking at a ticket. There is a clean restroom at the entrance of the park when you enter. Also, this is a bring on/leave with park, meaning that there are no trash bins, so remember to bring your own trash bags and clean up after yourselves.

Came to Jamesport to visit wineries and a brewery. Happened to come by this preserve. What a wonderful surprise to find a couples of trails that end at a beautiful and serene beach. The beach is full of shells and smooth rocks. Few people and $8 to park!

A short hike of about 1/2 mile takes you to beautiful views of the L.I. Sound. This mile long beach area is environmentally protected and is also very clean.

A brand new state park that is in the middle of a great tourist area. Basically the park is a visitor center, and 3 trails. Its neighbor is a 19th century farm museum and a large winery. The state made a real effort to maintain the trails, but there is no facilities near the beach. But it is a nice way to spend an hour.

I used to go in there years ago before it was a state park. Always wondered who owned the land, I was told the feds. I knew the land owners on both sides so had good Jeep access. The pond had some good fishing. Gonna have to check it out and see what they have done.
