If you go to the upper buttermilk parking lot (King rd) and walk down the trail toward lower Buttermilk even with low water flow the rock formations and intimate pools are beautiful . There are many short lovely trails, check the map at the parking lot. Good fishing at Treman lake too. Many good spots for picnic and bbq.

We stayed at the campsites at Buttermilk Falls early August and it was a really nice. The falls themselves were a sad sight due to the drought but we were in town to visit family so it wasn't a big deal for us. Truly the only issue we had was the drive from the falls to the campsite was super... More

In August 2016, the water level at the falls was low because of drought conditions in central N.Y., but there were still students jumping into the deep swimming holes and playing along the water. When every where else seemed so hot, this was a shady and relatively cool place to take a hike for a couple of hours with our... More

I visited in Aug 2016 when there was very little water flowing. However, this allowed me to see the many rock formations and other natural beauties that would have not been visible otherwise. I hiked up the gorge side first. It's a steep climb but so beautiful. I came down the ridge side. There were lots of people walking their... More

Normally a spot we always take company from out of town.... With drought conditions it currently isn't very flashy as a tourist attraction.

I prefer to go further up the road to Treman. This is fine. Just not as great as some. If you just want to "see falls", they are visible from the car.

Ithaca is experiencing record draught making the falls nothing more than a trickle. Not worth the stop.

Although highly discouraged, we, had an amazing time splashing along through the river bed high above the famous Buttermilk Falls. Our visit occurred on an extremely hot day, and to our surprise, we found that the swimming hole at the base of the falls is closed mid-week, perhaps due to a lack of visitors, not too sure. Instead, we took... More

The quadrilateral rock formations and the plunge pools are great to look at (and dive into if you're hot and brave enough!) It's not a huge park but it makes a great morning or afternoon trip.

The falls were more like trickles, it could be because no rain in awhile but very disappointing. Parking was not worth the $7.00.
