A lovely viewpoint of the lake and sunset, however, because it is such a cramped space, I find I enjoy the sunset from Stewart Park much more.

I think I discovered Sunset Park here on TripAdvisor. This was one of our first stops in Ithaca - we drove into town, ate dinner, and headed for Sunset Park. It's a quiet little nook up on a hillside tucked into a neighborhood. There were a few other people up there, including a guy living in a converted school bus with his very cool dog who brought us sticks (and a rock) to throw while the guy did yoga on the grass. Nobody applauded the sunset or anything corny like they do in Key West, it was just very chill.

We saw a hot air balloon soaring up over the city, which was pretty cool, you don't see that every day, at least not in the DC suburbs where we're from.

All in all, a pretty view of the city and the tip of the lake and the sunset. It was a nice introduction to Ithaca.

This small west-facing park, which consists of a grassy lawn on a hilltop and a bench overlooking the valley to the lake, is a nice place to take in the view - or the sunset, per its name. You should definitely get here by car, as it is up some incredibly steep and winding roads. There is no playground and there is a steep drop off beyond the grassy lawn, so it may not be the best place for children to play. But it's peaceful and relaxing and a nice place to enjoy good weather.

If you
Don't like outstanding views of sunset and Cayuga lake and city of Ithaca then don't bother going. Let's keep this place a hidden ithaca jewel!

This may just be my favorite place in all of Ithaca. The view is stunning and, since I have no words to do it justice, I have attached a few photos. I often walked here alone--maybe once a week when the weather was nice--to take a break from everything. I've never seen more than fifteen people here, give or take a few, so its certainly a nice place to have some peace. This place should be a "don't miss" for Ithaca but maybe what makes it so special is its relative secrecy. Who's to say.
