Sorry for the delay in my review. But just like I had to delay trying flyy fishing it was well worth the wait. When we arrived at Hunter Mountain Fly Fishing we were promptly greeted by our guide Irwin. It was a beautiful late summer day and there were fish to be caught. After getting our waiters off we went for a short drive to the Esophus Creek. Irwin was quick to point out some insect activity above some calm waters. A good place to start. But first a lesson in how to cast a fly rod. Irwin is a patient man and he needed it as my son and I were first timers. But with great instructions and a little perseverance we got it. (Well sort of) We worked our way down stream and found some action. Fly fishing is an art. You also need alot of local knowledge. For that we had Irwin. A great day out on the steam . Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned fisherman Hunter Mountain Fly Fishing does it all. Looking forward to a return trip. …

We signed for a full day school. It is not cheap but money well spent. Our instructor Oleh Czmola is a star. All gear is Orvis so top notch, We catch several rainbow trouts in the afternoon. Brilliant day outdoors, highly recommended,…

We are in our sixties and we had a great time. We went on the midline tour. A young family from Denmark was on our tour and a young couple. We couldn't have felt better cared for and safe. The guides were fun and wonderful at putting everyone at ease and making the whole adventure fun, fun, fun! If you have ever wondered what is was like to fly, DON'T WAIT go and do it. We want to go back and do the high line. …

We came to Hunter Mountain to get in some hiking, horse backing riding and fly fishing on our way to visit family in New Jersey. We were pleasantly surprised with the Orvis fly fishing school there and had a great time learning how to fly fish. We had a party of four including my two kids age 10 and 12. Our guides Erwin and Doug did a nice job with the kids insuring they stayed with them until they could do their cast on their own. They took us to an area that you really cannot access unless you’re with a licensed guide and it was picture perfect. To find yourself halfway submerged in water as the sun is setting against the mountains and the beaver swimming all around you while you throw those long skillful casts which you just learned in order to catch the big one that is taunting you 40 ft away is just a satisfying experience. I did not want to stop and even though it got dark, they patently waited for me to realize it was time to go home! We rented the equipment, including waders from Mary at the Orvis shop and they fitted us there to insure we had perfect fits. I learned how to throw a nice fly fishing “cast” in our ½ day lesson and I can you that I am now hooked! What better way to learn fly fishing then at the birthplace of fly fishing in the Catskills and by such a wonderful fly fishing school at Hunter Mountain. I highly recommend this school to anyone wanting to learn the art of fly fishing and am within 2 hours of NY City! Ask for Erwin or Doug and you will be very satisfied. We were.…
