We attended a Murder Mystery on the Spirit on 28Aug21. Guy and the crew did a great job making all the guests comfortable, providing a great meal, and imparting humor from the helm. The 2 of Us Productions troupe was talented and funny.

It was a terrific 90-minute cruise aboard the Hudson Spirit on the brilliant autumn afternoon of Oct. 24. The scenery was spectacular and the crew did a great job describing the sites along that way. We'd do it again. Highly recommended.

Such a wonderful and relaxing cruise! The crew was super nice and the views were spectacular. Such an easy part of our trip to just walk off the Amtrak and onto the boat. Captain commentary was funny and cute. It felt like he knew every person in the surrounding town and their boats which was heart warming. Can’t beat buy one beer get the 2nd for a dollar! I didn’t anticipate a bar on board but boy was I happy! I wish the weather had been nicer but I definitely would come back. Definitely wish we had pulled more cash out to give a better tip to the crew.

I had scheduled a private boat for a bachelorette party two + months ago. Everything was confirmed via email with the operator. I had reached back out a month beforehand to ask if i needed to put a deposit down or sign anything, at which time they told me "no you're good"...i did think that was strange but not my business. We arrived in Hudson and i emailed again confirming the details b/c the weather was looking a little iffy and i got a message back basically saying they had no idea what i was talking about and there was 0% chance we could go out on the boat. I re-forwarded them my long email chain confirming this trip. What made it even worse was hearing someone in the background on the phone basically saying i was making it all up rather than just apologizing for the confusion. I was pretty livid to say the least. I understand things happen and people mess up, it's the beginning of the season, but being told i was lying while having several emails of proof is unacceptable.

This was a wonderful experience! We saw osprey, bald eagles, a peregrine falcon, and great blue herons. Our guide was super knowledgeable about the natural and human history of the area. We'll definitely be coming back and bringing friends and family.

The trip started at 7:30AM at Hudson and went to 4 lighthouses (Hudson, Saugerties, Rondout and Esopus Meadows). The trip included a light breakfast and a nice lunch (chicken, Pasta, Meatballs, salad wraps etc). We were able to go into all 4 lighthouses and climb outside at the top. Each light had people to give the history of the lighthouse. The trip ended at Kingston at about 5:30PM then a bus trip back to Hudson. The crew was very nice and kept people entertained with stories etc. This would be an awesome trip for a family but a great trip for anyone!

Important Disclosure: We never got on this boat--though we arrived excited about the prospect of an hour and a half cruise to see local mountains and perhaps wildlife. We'd found out about this cruise in our regional Entertainment Book (you know, those thick books full of buy-one get-one coupons). My husband had phoned the boat company the week before to make sure that with our Entertainment Book/River Cruises coupon (a buy-one get one offer), we could both cruise for $25, instead of $50. However, the man at the dock told us they didn't honor Entertainment book coupons. Then he told us that Entertainment Book had gone out of business (which isn't true, Though the boat captain agreed with him). Because we stood our ground, the dock man made a call to a woman somewhere and said to her, "These people can't use an Entertainment Book coupon, can they? We don't honor those, do we?" At that point it began to rain, and we decided to forget the cruise. The dock man said, "It's not going to rain. It's just that one cloud. It's a perfect day. It's the best day to see wild life." But we were already running for our car to get out of the storm which lasted over an hour. Poetic justice, maybe?

The Bad: The dock is not well marked. It is behind the Amtrak station so you can follow those signs, then drive around to the water. There is also a road closed near the dock at the time of this review. There is a small sales kiosk in a small parking lot, which was not in use (you can securely park there). With no other directions, I approached a guy in what looked like an official shirt, who directed us to buy tickets on board.
The Good: Beyond the shaky marketing and admin, the crew was wonderful. Very upbeat and all seemed to love what they were doing. The full bar had a good selection of beer and had drink specials the day we sailed. It was booked as a 1 1/2 hour tour, but the captain got the consensus from everyone on board to go longer. The narration was informative and a bit historical. We saw bald eagles, osprey and some huge fish that jumped. Very comfortable and relaxing. Met several people on board. We sang happy birthday to a woman turning 99 years old- so you can tell that navigation on and off the boat is pretty easy.
Well worth the $25 we paid -we would do it again in a heartbeat if in the area.

I first contacted this cruise company online, via the email address, to ask a few questions. This was NOT a good experience, it was like pulling teeth to get a response...and when I did get a response, it wasn't accurate information. For example...we chartered the Little Spirit, it holds a max of 17 (15 guests, 2 crew). The person who answers the email, apparently an owner, told me we could have 17 guests in addition to the crew. I asked twice to be sure I was clear on what he was telling me since the web site said 15. The count mattered because I had to cut our invite list shorter. This event was for a graduation celebration. There were a few other things that just didn't 'sit' right. SO...long story short, I ended up calling the office directly, getting the office manager/booker Marie, and she was great! She handled our booking, guaranteed a great time, and told me not to worry. Stan was our captain and Audrey was the first mate and they were very nice and capable people. The pontoon boat was roomy and comfortable for all. We arranged pick up and drop off at Port of Call in Catskill. We brought a cooler packed with snacks and drinks and we all had a blast! Marie said it's best to call the office directly...don't bother with the email.

Not terribly exciting but wonderful way to take in a great view of the Hudson and environs. A bit of commentary makes it more interesting.

Was a great 1 1/2 hour cruise down the Hudson River. The cruise leaves from the pier in Hudson NY and passes many beautiful sites like the Hudson-Athens lighthouse, under the Rip Van Winkle bridge, make a right and head down the Catskills Creek and then make the return trip. The Captian was fantastic and narrated the entire trip. He knows the Hudson like the back of his had. SO much that he has published a book about the history of the Hudson River. I 100% recommend the cruise and when I can, I will do it again.
