You have to see this to believe it. Beautiful fish all very fresh but then they store it in freezers that have no electricity and many with no ice! Prepare for the flies. It's all so busy when the little boats come in.

One of the most vibrant and real places I have visited, the bustle of people making a living, not put on for tourists.

The fish market itself is nice and the road that leads to it as well, if you come at the right time, you will see how the fishermen arrive with fresh merchandise to sell. Everything is chaotic, but at the same time very interesting. On...More

Dirty , busy but don’t let that put you off. This is why I came to Gambia to see the culture and how these people live. Amazing people just trying to earn a crust for their families

Great place to visit to get a feel for real Gambian life. Despite quoted concerns about being hassled we had no issues and thoroughly enjoyed the sights..

We shopped at the Bakau market whilst on a self catering 10 day holiday. The fish bought was fabulous - fresh and really good value. The guys working in the market really friendly - and pricing seemed fair.

Walked through the Bakau Fish Market around 4pm when the fisherman started to return from the sea. We could see in how the supply chain works and how fishes are stored in cold (or not). The smell was not bad at all. Highly recommend, in...More

This is well written and well photoed and well described. We were actually there to buy some fish, so someone with me to know what to look for and haggle a price. Reasonable at the best of times by Europe fish market prices. Boats, highly...More
