The walkway trail and the bridge are beautiful, great views, nice breeze, really good amenities (cleanest public bathroom I've ever seen) - but the trail that takes you through Poughkeepsie to the Mid Hudson bridge and back up the Haviland, well... I would say just stay up on the trail and bike or walk it back and forth (8 miles). The path through the town has you cross some busy streets and walking the Mid Hudson Bridge - very noisy (although the Bridge Music was very cool). While there is very good signage (just follow the yellow arrows), crossing the busy streets was not as relaxing and at the end basically walking uphill on the side of the road - not for kids.

Enjoy the scenic views from above! I'm fortunate to live in Highland, that said its worth the trip to walk or bicycle the bride or trails in the surrounding areas. Its clean and safe as well.

Beautiful visit with helpful and informative staff. The view was fantastic from the walkway. You can take the elevator down on the Poughkeepsie side of the bridge and walk around the shoreline or keep walking to the end of the bridge which leads to The Little Italy neighborhood although it didn't look like much from above. On a warmer day it would have been nice to explore the area a bit more. I would recommend visiting during a warmer time of year- November was a bit chilly from way above the Hudson.
