I had been considering having my daughter’s birthday party at the Long Island Puppet Theater for a few years. I finally decided to pull the trigger for her 3rd birthday since she is old enough to full appreciate the celebration. We went to a puppet show to check out the place. It was a cold winter day so they didn’t have many guests. The place is so well decorated. I love the fact that the puppeteer is the artist (also the owner) behind everything. Kids are so tied to screens these days so I was looking for a party that offer something different and require imagination.

When you walk in the door, you are greeting by a room full of whimsical decorations. Hand painted walls, a display of puppets, beautiful chandeliers, butterflies hanging from the ceiling. You would think that you walked into Alice in the Wonderland. There is a separate theater room for the puppet shows which again is a room very well decorated.

My daughter picked the pirate and princess party. We had 20 children ranging from 1 to 15. There were another 25 adults attended. We confirmed out headcount and ordered food a few days before the event. They took care of everything and all I had to do was bringing the cake. I opt to bring my own goodie bags for my guests as well.

It was a fun packed 2 hours we spent there. Everyone was into the games. The kids had a ball. Every single one of them participated in the games. When you see all 20 kids bouncing on the dance floor including the older ones, you know they are having a good time. The parents were so impressed by the venue and the entertainment, they could not stop thanking me for inviting them during and even days after the party. There were 3 people serving us during the event. They took care of hanging the coat, serving food and drinks, handing out goodie bags, clean up. I didn’t have to do a thing.

My daughter was very disappointed when the party was over. She wanted to stay so I promised her that I would bring her back for future shows.

I am sad to see the bad reviews here. In my experience, these are people who are passionate about their work and their art. They are extremely talented. They are a small local business with the goal to bring joy and imagination to children. You get a very personal experience here unlike some of the children parties I have been to hosted by chained business. You do pay a bit more than the generic party but you will get a memorable experience. I hope people don’t get discouraged by the negative review and give them a shot.

The Long Island Puppet Theater truly is the Jewel of Hicksville and anyone fortunate enough to attend a performance will not be sorry.

Since the opening of their doors many years ago, I have either taken my children to see the various performances during school breaks and/or held several birthday parties there as well. My middle daughter who is now 14 still remembers her princess party held there 10 years ago. The shows are always unique and ‘magical” as described by my 8 year old son.

When you first pull up to the theater, especially during the spring time, you look around in amazement at the gardens that the owners have created. Tucked and hidden behind Route 106/107 in Hicksville, no one could ever imagine this spectacular delightful world even exists.

And then you enter the front doors and you are brought back in time to a place long since forgotten. A time when video games and televisions weren’t consuming our children’s lives and allowing a child’s imagination to finally run free. There are hundreds of puppets from all over the world, each with its own “story”, showcased for patrons to view. In addition, you can’t help but look in amazement at the way the owners transformed this bland building into a land of wonderment. The hand painted artwork is spectacular and the theater they designed and built transports you back in time to what you would imagine a centuries old European theater must have looked like.

If you need something to do this summer with your family….look no further but this theater and sit back, relax and enjoy the spectacular show.

Took my 4 year old for a 1:30 pm showing and we were the only two there to see the show. I thought - oh good we can watch it without a crowd. We waited til about 1:45 pm and they told us that they would not do the show for just the two of us to come back at 3:30 and maybe there will be more people. Oh sure, like I have all day to drag my 4 yr old around to see a show that may or may not happen. Not only was it bad business but my 4 year old kept asking why they would not show us a puppet show! I called him back to tell him how upsetting it was and he said it costs too much to put on a show. I guess our time, the gas it took to get their and the babysitter that was watching my 3 month old is not valuable. Very disappointing to say the least. They did not even give her a free ticket to see the next show! Who cares if it was a good show - we will never know! I would not waste my time!

We took my 15 month old here for the Elmo puppet show along with a friend and her kids. I checked the place out online and thought it looked cute and for the price why not give it a shot. Upon walking in the front door I knew we were in for it. The lobby area is filled with all sorts of "crap" and it seemed dusty and dirty. We went into the theatre which had a nice setup. Once the show started we thought we were in the twilight zone. The puppets were great but the puppeteer was strange. He wasn't doing any voices just taking out each puppet making them move. My son is little so even the appearance of the puppets made him smile which was good. But then there was some crazy loud lazer show that took place which kind of freaked the kids out. The whole time my husband and I felt uncomfortable like we were in an episode of CSI in a delusional person's residence.

This place has the potential to be a great place for kids if promoted correctly and upon the hire of some TALENT!!! In the meantime, stay away.

I suggested my daughter and son-in-law take their 21/2 year old to the Little Mermaid show. They were excited to take her. The theatre was cute, but the show as they said "was lame". Two puppets, the puppet voices were a recording that was sort of muffled and left a lot to be desired. Two other children were there also and lost interest for most of the show.
My granddaughter wanted to put her head on her moms shoulder, very unusual for her!
A waste of $36. And I was going to take my other grandkids to see Wizard of Oz. Probably not now.........

I had my daughters 2nd birthday party there and the owner was rude to my guests and me. She started yelling at my guest that her daughter touched the puppet so she has to pay for it! Then she started yelling at me and tried to put it on the bill!
Food was missing and they then took it out last minute.
It was a sad experience because she ruined my daughters fun day.

If you want something different and fun for your child's birthday you should definitely give Long Island Puppet theater a try. We just celebrated our daughter's 6th birthday party there and everyone including moms and dads had a grand time. The kids were involved since the moment they came in. The place was beautifully decorated. The hostess and the entertainers were very accommodating and pleasant.

This is my third time goign there. i just loved it. Every time there is something new to notice. I would describe it just like Dinsey World. Its a place for children to have the time of their lifes & also for adults. The gentleman who does the puupet show is amazing. He is really polite, has a great smile, and he showed that loves what he does. My two kids had an amazing time with him. They loved the show and how they were treated. The show, "Meet Elmo & his Friends" was fantastic! The way they make it look so real is amazing. I will definitely recommend this theatre to all my girlfriends & family members.

I am looking forward to having my daughter's birthday party in August. So far, by attending their performances i am very pleased with them. She is really excited and cant wait!

My husband and I took our two yr old to the Elmo puppet show. The theater itself was interestingly decorated (cute), but does seem a little outdated. It looks nothing like it's picture on the website. It is a small theater, if I am remembering correctly, about 6 rows of wooden bench seats. It was an interactive show, which was great that a 2 yr old could be a 2 yr old and run around and dance without being scolded. It was a little cheesy, for lack of a better word. One man would yell out for a character (Elmo, Bert, etc) and then pull out a hand puppet. There were no voices for the characters of any kind, just the man talking to the puppet and the kids handing objects to the puppets. It was something fun for an hour, but I am not sure I would do it again.

One suggestion for the theater, at the end of the show, the man put on music and laser lights and walked away. The track was put on repeat (this was done once before in the middle of the show for the kids to dance to). There was no real conclusion to the show. All the parents kept looking around, wondering if that was in fact the end (after the track repeated 3-4 times). I would suggest some sort of signal, like "this now concludes the show, but children are welcome to stay and dance for the next 10 minutes".
