My husband and I spent the weekend at the KOA. We spent most of Saturday at the mine. We found quite a few gems, enough for a "cage" charm for myself. My husband even went back Sunday morning to search for more! We are returning in October and bringing our 6 year old grandson as a surprise!

Very very disappointed!!! $12 admission x 2. Did not find anything. We searched for hours looking for porous rock that you have to break open. We looked through ground too. Some prospectors were using sledge hammers to break apart rocks. They were bleeding from legs and face . Very hard work for no reward. Cannot recommend. Clerk said they will... More

We had a great time breaking rocks and searching for crystals. You can rent equipment and bring your own lunch and drinks. Proper shoes should be worn, first aid kit can be handy.

I had no idea that there was a such thing as a Herkimer Diamond (pure quartz already faceted right out of the rock it grows in).

For some reason, our family all thought the rocks would be a bit easier to break through. They were very difficult to hammer apart. That being said, we had a lot of fun searching for the Herkimer Diamonds and hammering away and the rocks. Every little find and discovery was exciting for the adults and the kids.

My husband and I are seniors. This is rugged terrain. But we did it.....not as well as some, but better than others. It was HOT. We did find some small gems. Things you will need: Gloves Glasses (sold there) Pick Tweezers Claw hammer A pad to kneel or sit on Water Look for light weight rocks with pea size holes.... More

On a hot day it was a fun thing to do, and you definitely got out your aggressions by hitting those rocks. Fun to find the diamonds, no matter how small.
