About
You'll fall in love with the fun and unique wines at Penguin Bay that range from dry to semi-sweet. What is more to love is the fact that a portion of all wine proceeds go to the endangered Humboldt penguins at the Syracuse Rosamond Gifford Zoo. So stop into our tasting room and pick a favorite wine to savor while you enjoy our lake view picnic facilities.

A day on the Seneca side of the FLX's. I wasn't sure how the wines would be, honestly went more so to pick up a bottle of Penguin something as a gift for a penguin lover. However the visit was very nice. They had pre set flights to select from and we did a red flight. It was middle of the week, not crowded and we pretty much had the tasting room to ourselves. It was a nice relaxing visit, not rushed. The lady who set up our flight was very nice, came to our table and checked in with us, chatted a bit as well. They give a percentage of sales to the zoo for the Humboldt Penguins which was nice to see. We selected a Lemberger Pinot Noir to bring home for us and got Blackberry for the needed gift. Didn't try the blackberry but it is sweet one and the recipient will like that. Penguin Bay is one of 3 "sister" wineries. Supposedly you can get any of the 3 wineries selections at any of the 3. We did actually go to all three during our stay. Only focused on what was exclusive at each location. If in the area again we would probably return to one of the three and and purchase our faves from each location. It was a nice visit though.

Our first impression came from the woman who took our tasting order. She was rude and had no knowledge of the wines when we asked questions. It was as if we annoyed her when we asked a question yet we were the ONLY people there. On the other hand the man that brought our tasting to the table was super friendly and pleasant to converse with. I did not care for any of the 5 wines I tasted but did like the Pensecco from my husband’s tasting. Refreshing and cute name! We purchased several bottles.

Our goal is to offer a great experience both in terms of the wines and the service. It is disappointing to hear that she came across as rude, and we will address that with our staff. All of our staff has been trained and are quite knowlegable on the wines, so I am surprised that she did not offer more detail. As we realize that everyone’s tastes are different and the best wine is the one you like the best, we are glad to hear that you at least like one of the wines. We offer several 90+ rated wines and mutiple gold medal winners as well.

I like that they are open till 5:30 since other wineries close at 5. We enjoyed our tasting of wine and the grape juice (not wine) was delicious. Bought some wine and grape juice. They also have other items for sale.

Wanted to take my daughter to a winery for her birthday. Picked this place to try specifically based on the penguin theme. Place closes at 5, we arrived at 4:33. We were greeted by the employee shouting that tasting were done at 4:30pm. Yet, after that she setup some others for a tasting. It might have been a little understandable if the place was jammed packed with people, or if we were a large group, or if there were lots of people coming in but there were less than a dozen other patrons when we arrived and maybe 2 couples came in during the 15 minutes we were there. Needless to say, we were put off by the rude greeting and less than welcoming atmosphere. It is very unfortunate because there is a lot of competition in the Finger Lakes region. We end up going down the road a short distance to another winery that was closing within the half hour after we arrive, and there it was a completely different experience - enjoyable!

This was one of four stops while visiting Watkins Glen. This was a pretty good stop. The gentleman running the tasting room was friendly and welcoming. We had a nice table looking over the lake and vineyards. They had a “pick 5 of 6” along with preset flights. The Rose was very good and the Rieslings were good too.

We did a flight of sweet wines which my husband and I shared. They were big enough to share. They gave you some chocolate to go along with it. The wines were decent but the grape juice was the big star. We purchased several bottles. The woman doing the pours was very nice and explained everything we had in the sampler.

We visited this winery Columbus Day weekend. We had a fantastic time. It was very busy but the staff was helpful and courteous. The wines are fantastic. It's a place we will return.

By the time we reached Penguin Bay, we were worn out from 8 hours of wine touring. The Hector Falls appeared on the roadside - definitely an opportunity for a beautiful photo. The Blackberry slushie was a treat. There are two large tasting areas so you aren’t crowded there, and they donate frequently to the penguin exhibit at a nearby zoo. There is wine and penguin themed merchandise for sale as well. Take a moment to sit in the tasting room closest to the lake - great views.

My husband and I visited the Seneca Lake for our 15th anniversary and this winery was our least favorite of all that we visited. The building itself isn't anything special, kinda blah and there wasn't a single wine I tasted that I liked. Bottom line is there are a lot of other wineries that have buildings with a lot more character and better views surrounding the lake.

Thank you for visiting our tasting room. Many of our visitors enjoy our wines and the view; In fact, most of our varietal wines have been awarded numerous gold medals (mostly in major California competitions), including our Dry Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Franc. However, we do realize that not everyone likes the same wines and respect everyone's preference. Perhaps you'll give us another try the next time you visit the area, but we do hope that you enjoyed your overall trip to the Finger Lakes for your anniversary!
