My husband and I went to see the new Star Wars movie. The improvements they have made at the theater were awesome. We really enjoyed the sound which was relaxing. Prices for the matinee was very reasonable.

With little TV reception at our farmhouse, a once or twice a week excursion in the summer to the Hamilton Cinema both cuts the boredom and keeps me up with the latest films. They run three different screening rooms and often have one or two "specials" in addition to the three that are regularly screening each week.

This is a small town theatre but with three screens, they usually have something for everyone. Free kids movies on Saturdays, opera, indie films, a classic series, a film festival in the summer.....

Sadly, I went to the Hamilton Movie Theater over the weekend to take my grandchildren to a long planned movie. I never dreamed, that after living in this town for many years and knowing that they have undergone numerous extensive renovations, that I needed to call ahead to see if they were accessible for the handicap. In my opinion, they are not. I entered using a knee walker (I had surgery a few days before) plus my husband carried crutches (I was too weak to use them). I was met with the ticket booth where the girl asked which movie we were planning to see. We bought 5 tickets. I inquired about the lift because I could see it and two people with numerous keys tried to get it to work with no luck. I crawled up the first stairs as I thought if that's all there are, I could do that rather than do disappoint my grandchildren. Little did I know that I had the equivilant of over a flight of stairs in two large sections yet to climb. Yes, the girl offered to carry my popcorn but to start with she should not even have sold me the tickets if she knew I could not get to the theater. I am just plain disappointed that the local theater is not set up to accept people in my condition. I was embarrassed and humiliated to say the least to have to have literally crawled up those stairs just so I could spend a nice afternoon at the movies with my grandkids. In this day and age all businesses should have to comply with the ADA.

The town of Hamilton is a blast from the past ...a charming small town with some great park space and lovely old buildings. Colgate campus is impressive for a stroll. and its theater looked like a great place to see a production if the timing works out for you . Movie theater interior has two small screens in what used to be balcony. The main screen isi a large one ...if there is a movie you want to see while in town.

We went with our son, a professor at Colgate, to see a film being shown as part of a summer film festival. I was surprised at how nice the theater is inside. We were in the small theater at the top of the stairs; our son says there is a larger one downstairs. It did remind me of a neighborhood theater I used to go to as a child in the 1960's! While old, it is well kept up and very clean, and the young staff member was very friendly.
