I participated in the Volunteer project at Hwange Horseback Safaris for a period of 6 weeks. It was such an incredible way to experience Hwange National Park. Over my time with Hwange Horseback Safaris, I felt that I was an integral part of the local community of Dete, met many other incredible volunteers from all over the world, and became a much better rider. I highly recommend this experience if you enjoy horses, and want to experience the bush from a different angle!

Hi everyone!

I Highly recommend this horserinding experience. You can go there (deep in Hwange National Park) thanks to Brian from Customise Travels. He took uslast week at our lodge in Vic Falls to this Hwange 1 day horseback safari experience.
Our 16-days Botswana tour with an international group ended in Vic falls that morning and we had on our bucket list to do horse-riding between wild animals.
Everything was perfectly organised that day. On the road Brian told us a lot about Zimbabwe, the situation in general and also about his family. Very nice to be in his company.
The Horseback safari was exactly like we hoped. It was a full day, included a very nice stop for lunch. The horses were very well threatened and they took also a real break, (saddles off, water and they were free in limited area). The guide was from Zimbabwe and had all knowledge of the wild animals and local people. We discoverd thet they are people with a real warm heart for the local comunity. They contribute a lot.
While we were riding, the gnus, kudus, birds and impalas didn’t really notice us and crossed our paths. They saw our horses grazing and so they knew it were herbivores and that made them without fear.
We were very tired on the way back to our Lodge. We felt very save, in good hands, whole day and finished our South African Experience with this unforgettable day!

Certainly one of the best horse rides I have ever done. Friendly horses who patiently let you ride them. The bush experience is amazing. The different vegetation, the animals you can hear and see. Elephants nearby and how the horses interact with the surrounding. And many compliments to Linda. Not only a wonderful guide, but she would make an excellent horse riding teacher. We loved all of this trip!

I was staying at Miombo Safari Camp and by chance a met a wonderful women at Date, running a store with handmade local products. You should definitely go there and check it out as well. Her name is Dorcas. She then introduced me to Hwange Horseback safaris and I just walked over and asked for a ride to be organized. They were very accommodating. I did not even have any gear / outfit with me and they immediately helped with chaps and helmet. I had a truly wonderful ride and enjoyed it a lot. I will definitely come back some day for a more extensive experience. Presently they are also building a new camp. I am sure it will be a great experience to stay there and go on more extensive horseback tracks with them!

Wow! How many people get to say that they rode a horse in a national park surrounded by wild animals? What an amazing experience! Dennis and Sharon are incredible with the horses and make you feel like you are on a real adventure. Definitely a item checked off the bucket list!
