- IndySigIndianapolis, Indiana4,121 contributionsNice plantation.Beautiful estate with so much to see. The vanilla plantation was so interesting and the giant tortoises are always fun to watch. The star of the show is the walk to Anse d’Sargent. Such a beautiful beach. We did not find the snorkeling to be great, but you can’t beat the views and the water.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten November 27, 2023
- Jules0330London, United Kingdom25 contributionsWonderful place but beware the “souvenir” shop scamThe animals that live on the estate live in dire conditions, look ill and not taken care of. Terrible. The estate could be so much better considering the money they charge. There’s a souvenir shop right after the entrance and before heading to Anse Source d’Argent where the seller does not display prices so she will come up with incredibly expensive ones, three times more expensive than Mahe airport! So beware! All spices are old, do not smell fresh. The shop is very hot, products will not keep, including the vanilla pods which must be kept in the fridge. It is only worth visiting for the wonderful famous beach, but if you care about the animals, you will be leaving sad.Visited November 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 10, 2023

The beaches are out-of-this-world beautiful (and almost empty when we visited), the plantation house quaint and quirky, the historic cemetery atmospheric, and the tortoises enclosure is the best I've seen in the Seychelles (i.e. not too depressing or filthy). - Pernille DAMalmö, Sweden88 contributionsWorth visiting for the magnificent beachThere is a property entrance fee for visiting the Union Estate Park – but you need to enter to access the Anse Source d’Argent. We did the bicycle ride from the harbour to the Estate (about 5-10 min) and then immediately to the famous beach and arrived before the crowds. It is magnificent with the iconic granite boulders and the water is just beautiful – we had a really nice time here. In our opinion the park entrance fee is high compared to that we mostly just drove through it – we did stop by the vanilla plantation on our way out of the park – that was okay fun (but we were missing more information, e.g. a sign with information would have been nice) – and further passed by the giant tortoises (but found that the tortoises were better kept at the Botanical Garden on Mahé). But worth visiting for the magnificent beach.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 31, 2024

This park serves as the entrance/toll booth for Anse Source de Argent (the only beach we had to pay for on the Seychelles). Otherwise not much to offer. There is a bit of Vanilla an Coconut plantation. In comparison to Praslin we felt a bit like walking ATM machines for the locals/owners here.

They seem to charge for property entrance as all beaches in Seychelles are public and they simply cannot charge you directly for the beach. The fact is that the Estate is a waste of time, if you start exploring it you will find a garbage dump and chickens in very small cages. The main road and the colonial cemetery are nice (that is why I rate it 2 stars) but the rest deserves 0/5. Ironically, we recommend to visit Anse Source d’Argent at least once, especially during the morning, but in our view La Digue has at least 2 - if not 3-4 - more beautiful beaches.

We had a very shocking experience seeing some disturbing incidents at the tortoise enclosure in the park and therefore ask the staff of the park to protect the tortoises better from people.
First, a big group of tourists had stepped into the enclosure and was touching the tortoises although a sign on the left side explicitly forbids to step into the tortoises’ area! Later, we had an even more shocking experience which makes us write this review, with the hope that the staff at this park will take care of the tortoises and protect them from selfish people. A man had stepped into the enclosure and kept provoking the tortoises by knocking on some tortoises‘ shells, waving his hand directly in front of their faces and he also wanted to make one tortoise eat from a branch of leaves. Although the tortoise moved in its head into its shell, he did not stop disturbing it. We would have wished for the tortoise to bite off the man‘s finger, but who knows what he would have done in return to them. It was a very saddening experience at Union Estate Park and we left it very frustrated.
We hereby hope and ask the staff to protect the tortoises from such people!

The main reason for visiting Union Estate is to get access to Anse Source D'Argent. There is an old cemetery, a small plantation house and tortoise enclosure as well as a cafe and couple of other attractions. An interesting place but without the beach I am not sure it would be worth a visit.

Large farm park.
Entry costs 150 rupees.
Enclosures for turtles, rabbits and chickens - everyone has to decide for themselves how to rate the living conditions.
Vanilla plantation, old coconut factory, Plantation House.
Cafe/restaurant available.
Access to the famous beach possible.

A terrible impression of the park after communicating with the park security on the way out. I don't understand English well enough and asked the security to speak more slowly so that I could understand. The guide told me the wrong information about the tickets, so there was a problem at the exit and misunderstanding. The security women started yelling at me, one in particular was very rude. I asked her to lower her tone several times, to which she began to yell even louder, “Who are you anyway?” This is the first and only case that happened to me in the Seychelles. Everyone I've met here is very friendly and helps with everything! Yelling at one tourist together, allowing yourself to do this is a nightmare! only because I don't know English very well and didn't understand the information well enough. A nightmare! And when they yell, it doesn’t mean that I will understand better.

Perhaps 3 star is too low a rating. You could not fault the staff on the estate for their enthusiasm and willingness. However expectations were not met by reality. Very little actually open, the history not very well presented and not a lot to see . Tortoises were the highlight !

I am coming from a cruise ship. Are there taxis outside the estate to go back to the cruise ship?

Is it possibile to exit from the Union Park and than enter later (in the same day) without re-pay ?
Written February 12, 2020
Yes, it is open 7 days a week. From early morning until 6pm I think.
Written January 14, 2020
is the union estate park open during the holidays of early January?

Can I get to source argent beach without having to pay to go through Union Estate every day ?
Written August 13, 2019
That is not possible, because they change the bracelet color everyday and strictly control the bracelet color
when entering the gate.

Do you have many Aldabra in residence? How much is the entrance fee? So so looking forward to visiting & respecting your beautiful islands. Thank you
Written March 20, 2019
There were quite a few tortoises in the Union Estate park. I would say about 10. The entrance fee was 150 or 125 rupees per person.
