This was our second visit to Ravines. First of all, the tasting room in the barn is really lovely. The wood ceiling is gorgeous, the lighting is trendy and stylish, the seating areas are cozy and comfortable. Really nice wines-we especially enjoyed the Sparkling Brut and the Dry Pinot Rose. They have a very nice food menu that provided some nice bites to accompany our wine. Lucy, who ended up serving us, was very nice and pleasant-she saved the day.
The young woman who eventually acknowledged us after an uncomfortable wait (yes, we had a reservation made weeks in advance) couldn’t have been less friendly or welcoming. While she did put a food order in for us, she never asked us about our wine selections or stopped back once-she just said there was a welcome wine that she never brought. She didn’t smile nor did she return to our table. Lucy brought our food out (we still had nothing to drink) so we asked if we should place an order for the wines we wanted to try at the bar. She apologized that we’d not been helped and immediately brought us a welcome wine while submitting our other selections. If not for her, we’d have left.
We enjoy a welcoming tasting room and the opportunity to learn about how a winery sources/grows their grapes as well as understanding their process, etc. We didn’t have the opportunity to get any of that this time unfortunately. As a result of our (lack of) experience, we’ve taken Ravines off our list of places to visit on our annual trip to the Finger Lakes. Hopefully they’ll add more staff like Lucy who are pleasant and helpful to their guests.

After visiting Ravines on Keuka Lake several years ago and bringing home some excellent wines, my husband and I wanted to visit their Geneva location while staying on Seneca Lake. We were not disappointed and enjoyed our tasting at this charming barn setting. Once again, we came home with several bottles of their red wines. Try their Cab Franc and Maximillien - you won't be disappointed.

While visiting the Finger Lakes we tried probably a dozen wineries - this was hands down our favorite. Join the wine club AND shipped 12 bottles home! Great tour from Bob as part of the wine and food pairing. Was thrilled with the tour and the wine, only disappointed with the food pairings. Knowing the property is co-run by a chef and for the price of the tasting I expected more than cheese and meat. That said, it's a must visit winery

We stopped by for a tasting while passing through Geneva. We consider ourselves to be wine snobs with our go to wine being Oregon Pinot Noir, so I won’t try to compare NY wine with Oregon. However the Finger Lake region makes delicious Rieslings and Gewurztraminers and Ravines is no exception. We enjoyed all the whites we tasted. Ravines makes all their wines dry to semi dry. Sweet wine lovers will want to avoid this tasting room. For dry wine lovers, this place is a must.

I was looking to pick up a few bottle of local reds after bike riding in the area. You could lose an axel on their 1/2 mile pitted gravel road. Staff was nice enough as they spoke "wine-speak" but prices seem pretty high ($28 and higher for and of their 3 reds). I could have paid $15 to taste 4 wines and maybe get it back, but I was sweaty and dusty and had a long drive home. I opted to just buy one of each type without tasting since I was already there. Then they wanted my name and email address just to buy wine..."for the system." I refused; it's annoying to be asked for personal information when they already are holding my credit card. I have not tried their wine yet, but I'm probably not discriminating enough to regularly pay that amount for a bottle of wine; that's my mistake. I drove back down the terrible gravel road regretting we had stopped.

Four of us met the person at the door and told him we had reservations. It was the day after the eclipse. He directed us to the bar (no stools there) and we stood. We are all about 80 years old and noticed all the other patrons were sitting at tables and the place was about half full with several empty tables for 4 or more. We then were met by a female staff at the bar, and we asked if we could have a table. She said no (everyone else in the place was between 30 and 60). We said, "It looks like there are several tables free" and she responded with "well, you would need reservations." We then told her we DID have reservations (the door guy obviously didn't tell her). Even then she was reluctant to move us from standing up at the bar, for some reason, but finally agreed to escort us over to a table. The demeanor the whole time was definitely not friendly. It's odd that for a group so obviously older, they did not bring us to a readily available table in the first place to sit down. We were there for about 45 minutes and the tables were never all occupied, so they can't have had that many reservations in the first place!
Having said that, it's a beautiful, albeit rustic setting full of old oak beams and wooden floors and tables, etc. with big open picture windows overlooking the area with Seneca Lake way in the distance. The wines are good as always, although my wife thought the reds were not as good as in past years. Service during wine tasting flights was fine. But the introduction sucked.

The winery is located in an old, reclaimed dairy barn. The tasting room was set up very nicely but can only handle smaller groups during the winter months. They can accommodate larger groups during the warmer months as the main tasty area is open and over looks the vineyard. The driveway is long and a dirt road so be prepared to drive slow. The selections are all dry to semi dry. Most were enjoyable but I found the Ayre to be fantastic. They also produce a sparkling wine that is Brut. I was surprised at the smoothness of this wine.

Hi Bruce- Thank you for your review! We do have a small area of 100 year old, renovated slate barn tasting room that is heated / AC, and the rest that is for summer events and groups that was to taste in open air, as we open up the large barn doors so you can overlook the vineyards. Almost all of our wines are dry in style, except for our Late Harvest (dessert) wine, and the Ayre, which is a semi-sweet, lightly sparkling wine. Glad you enjoyed it!

Ravines was recommended for us to try by our server from another vineyard- we are so glad we did.
A beautiful countrified drive back to this vineyard, you are greeted by rows of fruit trees down a long country road. The tasting barn is big and beautiful along with the outdoor seating area.
While without a reservation, we were warmly greeted and seated for a tasting. Our server (a grad student and so sweet) walked us through our tasting with some great information. We happened to be there when a number of wine critics were there as well- this did not deter the staff from taking care of us.
A beautiful location, delicious wines (loved the Riesling that we were greeted with!) along with a great location! Would definitely recommend!

My wife and I along with our daughter and boyfriend had selected some wineries to explore in the Finger Lakes region. We've had Ravines wine in the past and decided to reserve a tasting session with them.
From start to finish it was an enjoyable experience. We enjoyed the wines and the discussion with staff members.

This was the first stop on our visit to the Finger Lakes. Although this was our second time in the area, I was still on a quest for dry red wines with a bold finish. I was not crazy about having to make (and pay) for an advance reservation for a wine tasting. The tasting consisted of 1 dry riesling, then your choice of a flight. I chose the Expressive Reds. We sat outside and it was a beautiful venue. However, there was no interaction with the winery staff. I usually enjoy the conversation and details surrounding the winery as well as the individual wines. I was not impressed by any of the red wines.

I plan to be in Geneva sometime in May with some friends and family (about 10-15) for a graduation ceremony and looking for ways to have a feel of the town- Can we have a tour of winery, see production process and have a nice meal at your winery?

THe winery has a website that describes their schedule. You can make special requests of them. The huge barn where we had our wine tasting and wonderful meal could surely accommodate 15 people and more. The area is lovely, and I am sure you will have a memorable experience there.
