$10 parking. Short beach walk to actual shore. Some food vendors on the weekends in the summer. Great waves. More locals than tourists. Nice place to ride a bike. Cool to see old photos of the beach from decades ago mounted on the public buildings.

Riis Park is a delight in the summer. If you live in the NYC area, and don't want to go to Long Island or the Jersey Shore, go to Riis. It is a beautiful public beach and the water is great. There are food and...More

Jacob Riis Park has a terrific, relatively inexpensive pitch-putt golf course. Holes range from 50 to 150 yards and are diverse in layout. It is a fun outing.

It’s the dead of winter and a bicycle ride on the boardwalk reveals sullen seagulls, a few frigid joggers and closed concessions. Open into October and reopening in May, the two all-stars of the park’s concessions: Ample Hills Creamery and Cuisine by Claudette are thankfully...More

We went off season so there was no charge to get in & no lifeguards, but the rest rooms were open & clean. There are however several rusty barriers on the beach that were exposed. Be careful as rip currents were very strong!

I've been going to Riis beach since I was a toddler ~summer family tradition. I was very surprised to see vendors selling hat's, etc on the boardwalk. This particular day, I was visiting the pitch and putt golf course which is a hidden treasure at...More

First time here and surprised at the size and quality of the beach! Lots of people but plenty of space. Nice boardwalk area to walk or bike. Easy to get to by bus which comes every 10 minutes. Lots of parking too.

Many years ago, this was a beach for gay men and the cafe was a Howard Johnson's (where I worked as a cashier when I was 15). Today it's open for everyone, gay, straight, in-between, there's no Howard Johnson's -- but the sand and the...More

Don’t think a Beach Tent is a problem but definitely no overnight stays in Riis Park. Check the National Recreation Area guidelines for tent size, etc....

I'm honestly not sure but you can check with the NYC department of parks. they'll have an updated lifeguard and beach availability schedule. The Riis park golf course is open though.

I believe it is still open. There were no lifeguards when we were there last month. Check their website. Have fun!
