AVERAGE FOR NE US BEACHES – BELOW AVERAGE ON A WORLD BASIS.
Of 7 beaches visited my NE US tour, ROCKAWAY was better than several, not as good as some – earning for me and average (for NE US) rating. But it would not make...More

The ferry from Wall Street and the East River out to Rockaway for the price of the subway or bus is nothing short of a wonder! From May through September the ferry departs every half hour while the rest of the year it’s hourly. Check...More
Wouldn't live anywhere else in NYC. We call Rockaway Beach "Nashville North" due to the abundance of excellent musicians / bands of all genres. The boardwalk is the place to be on a summer day / & night.
I have a layover for 8 hours at jfk from 1030am to 630pm. Can I get some suggestions on a short day trip somewhere? I've read up a little, and some things I found are flushing or Rockaway beach. It's a Friday. Thanks :)

Are either of the flights international? Do you have checked luggage that you will have to store at the airport? This will help us determine how long you actually have. If you are coming off an international flight you need to allow 2 hours for that and also 2 hours back at the airport for another domestic flight. If you are getting onto an international flight you need to be back at the airport 3 hours in advance - which means leaving wherever you are about 4 hours before the flight....More
One night's accomodation in Cannon Beach - please help! (3 Replies)
We have only one night (a Monday night) to stay at Cannon Beach in August. So far I haven't been able to find anywhere that offers one night's accomodation for August. We don't need anything fancy - just somewhere clean. It also doesn't need to be right in town. A B&B or motel would also work. Is Rockaway Beach a good alternative to Cannon Beach?

Lots of places at Cannon Beach have 2 nite minimums in the summer. Rockaway Beach has a different feel than Cannon Beach. Rockaway Beach more low-key than Cannon(Rockaway has less fancy shops, etc). An alternative to Cannon Beach type atmosphere would be Manzanita-try Sunset Surf Motel in Manzanita... Its not fancy-but it was clean last time I stayed there(about 1.5 years ago). Maybe look at the reviews to see if this place fits for you...
Farmer's Market (7 Replies)
For those who are opting to stay in one of the hotels, motels, or the RV park in Pacifica, as well as those making a coastal run up or down Highway 1, need road food and time it just right, on Wednesday's between 2:30 PM and 6:30 PM there's a nice little farmer's market held right off of Highway 1 at Rockaway Beach Avenue. What makes this market of particular value to visitors is that only half of the two dozen or so booths sell (organic) fruits and vegetables. The other half sell...More

Frisco Roadrunner writes>>....Sometimes you can find non-edible goodies too, like arts & crafts items.....<< Yeah, I chatted a bit with a soap-maker from Moss Beach who was selling her wares (Gaia Essentials). They looked entirely too wholesome and preservative-free for my tastes (hey, I depend on those preservatives to keep me youthful) but I mentally earmarked them as making a nice hostess gift when the hostess doesn't rate something really special like a road-kill possum. I think there...More
