We stopped here as we tried to do the carousel circuit in the Binghamton area. It was a little frustrating that we got there and everything was sort of locked up. Apparently they didn't have workers which might be driven by the time of year. We ended up hearing later that they had a worker showing up at 4. We came back and had a nice ride.
There is a large pool, some tennis courts and a playground area for the little kids. Overall it is a nice little park.

A true gem in Endwell New York. A great family attraction that is still free for all. This is one of the remaining gifts that the founder of Endicott Johnson, George F Johnson, gave to Broome County that is still standing.

Broome County, NY is the Carousel Capital of the World thanks to Endicott Johnson’s, George Johnson! We have 6 unique merry-go-rounds that are all free to ride. Highland Park is home to one of my favorites.

One of six working carousels in the region given by George F. Johnson, this is a small 36 animal carousel. Patrons can ride for free. This carousel was made in 1925 and was relocated to Highland Park. This carousel is the most sedate of the carousel with only a few of the horses going up and down. Check with the attendants to see which are the working horses. Carousel enthusiasts will enjoy the visit as will small children. This is one of the slower carousels.
The carousel is in a large park with a playground for children, picnic facilities and a concession stand. There is a large swimming pool near by and restrooms adjacent to the carousel.
The directions were not clear on the maps on how to find this carousel. It is located inside the Highland Park (no signs). Park in one of the main parking lots and walk up the hill to the concession stand. The carousel is just beyond it and not visible from the road.
Each carousel in the circuit has a collectors card for riders. Collect all 6 and trade them in for a button. It is suggested to start with West Endicott Park carousel and work your way east, ending at the Ross Park carousel. You can get a special treat for your button at the carousel shop.

The Highland Park Carousel is very similar to the other 5 carousels in the Binghamton area.
The Highland Park carousel in Endwell was first installed in En-Joie Park in 1925 and moved here in 1967 after the first park was closed. It features 2 chariots and 36 animals, 3 abreast with a pig and a dog hidden among the horses (we rode them both). Its white rounding boards have shields with faces on them. There is also a lion skin instead of a saddle on one of the horses. It has no band organ; a CD played carousel music instead.

I love this Carousel. It's been around for a long time. I'm glad that kids still have this kind of park ride because these days with everything all hyped up, this is a nice old fashion kind of ride and something to let them get a taste of tradition.

The Binghamton area has several carousels. Sadly this one seems like it might be the last one to get fixed/repaired/cared for. We rode the carousel yesterday and the whole time it sounded like it was one bad turn from coming to a halt. Still it is free and that makes it tough to give it a really bad score. I would definitely hit one of the other carousels first.

Since I live close to Highland Park, it was natural for me to take my 4-year-old granddaughter there when she and her Mom were visiting me. On weekdays, there is often no crowd, as was the case when we were there. My granddaughter loved the fact that she could stay on for ride after ride. It's nice to see the carousel tradition continued in our community.
