Very rude staff. Lift ticket prices are getting out of hand. It is to the point that a family cannot afford to teach their family to Ski. The short-term gain by the greed of the resort will have long term negative effects that will bring the skiing industry to its knees. Who do they think will carry on the skiing tradition in the next 20 years. Children in this country have abandoned baseball and football for soccer. This was never dreamed of, but yet here we are watching it happen. I can only hope the greed subsides before the damage is irreversible. Until sanity returns to the skiing industry, I will be skiing at local resorts that are still family friendly and customer friendly

My daughter (11) and I were in Buffalo for a hockey tournament and came up a day early to ski. We loved how night skiing started at 3:30. That way, we got to ski both before and after the sun went down. Had dinner at the Mountainside Grille. Meals at ski resorts are always overpriced, but this seemed less overpriced than some. Hardly any lift lines, really not crowded. We were there on a Thursday. Didn’t have to wait in line for anything, from picking up our lift tickets purchased online (they have self-service kiosks) to getting our rentals. Only complaint was I wish they had been doing less snowmaking on the runs that were open. It might night visibility pretty poor.

Visited Holiday Valley in January 2022 to ski. Stayed in the Tamarack Club which is super convenient. Parking deck, ski storage, on site restaurant and bar, on site lift tickets. Skiing was good although the lifts and slopes were not all open. We skied on a Tuesday so no crowd and never waited more than a minute to board a lift.
We traveled 3.5 hours to get here from Ohio. Skiing here is so much better than the Ohio options it is well worth the drive.

Oh my, we came in after our first day of skiing only to find that bar, restaurant, pool, hot tub and sauna were all closed. I have been to lots of ski resorts but never one that closes everything before the slopes. Our group ended up spending allot of money in town but we just wanted to stay on campus. A new thing on our list is we will call all ski resorts to see if we are allowed to eat after we ski....
The skiing was not the best but that was not their fault as the weather was warm. All the more reason to have other stuff open!
I was here 7 years ago and it was waaaaaay better. Won't be back

Holiday Valley was fine, as is the Village. We have enjoyed Ellicottville in the past and likely will again once our irritation comes off the boil.
What left a sour taste on this trip was the COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE COMMUNITY TESTING SERVICE TO DELIVER ON ITS HILLSIDE PCR TESTS FOR COVID. They took the swabs at a tent at Holimont and we completed the App's requirements (duly confirmed). THE RESULTS NEVER ARRIVED. That caused stress as we needed to have them within 72 hours of re-crossing the Canadian border.
Despite an email saying that they were looking into the delay the results were not forthcoming and have still not arrived EIGHT DAYS LATER. Needless to say we had to pay for our own PCR tests in Buffalo before returning to Canada. That cost U$420 that we had not planned on, plus the extra night's hotel that we had to book in Buffalo. Not the end of the World but what is really irritating is the failure to either provide the results or an explanation.
I don't know bout others' experience but for the three of us, THIS SERVICE SUCKS

My daughter and I were looking for a stop to add to our visit to the Ellicottville and Holiday Valley didn't disappoint.
We took a ride on the sky coaster and it was awesome.
My only disappointment was the lack of wildlife, but the views were still amazing.

Got a pool pass and enjoyed swimming and sitting by the pool. Got drinks at the outside bar and sat on some comfy outdoor furniture too. Would go back!

We played golf at their golf course on a Friday morning. $75 and absolute waste of money. Course was in good shape but they let out a bunch of 5 somes. We were on pace for well over a 5 hour round but left early. When I got a call back because the kid at the desk said I’d have to speak to a manager it was a joke. The guy basically said what did you expect. He acted like groups of 5 are a normal thing. And that over 5 hours four a round of golf is reasonable. Then he tried to tell me that we left after 4 hours and 50 minutes so it didn’t even take us 5 hours. We left at 16. It was a joke. Never playing there again. He also hung up on me because it was unreasonable that I was mad. NEVER EVER PLAYING THERE AGAIN. $75 for a course that could be great and is run by fools

We did the ropes course and mountain coaster. Great time and the staff took the time to go through all the safety stuff needed. Never felt unsafe. There are several levels of courses. We went as high as blue and that was plenty. Unless your are elite military or very in shape, the black courses were not for the faint of heart. It was a bit pricey for 3 hours but it was fun. Some of the 3 hours is taken up going through the safety briefings. Very clean and the staff were very friendly. Kids had a blast.

This is not skiing. This is sliding on a very icy, poorly-groomed hill, and paying a ton for it. You'll be surrounded by staff who hate that you are there, and other people who are pissed off, yet tell their buddies it's the Aspen of the East. Well, Aspen and their Ikon pass suck. If you want to experience the worst experience you can skiing, ski here. And for added thrills, stay in their junk box accommodations. This place is happy to cater to morons who don't have a proper frame of reference of what a real resort is. Takes a few employees to put together a decent IQ and the motive here is strictly to take your money. The grooming can (and has) kill(ed). If you want to slide on a golf course, this is your place. Take out a second mortgage, and then tell yourself it was great, like the rest of the morons who have to drink so that they have a good time. What a joke. Someone slept with someone to get those Ski Magazine (does anyone even read that advertisement book (I mean "magazine")?

Which is the best accommodation (with kitchen) option for 2 families with 2 kids each? (ages 5-6 - so ideally an easy walk to the lifts for the kids?).

The Tamarack Club at Holiday Valley would be a perfect fit for you. Their Deluxe Hotel Room has a Kitchenette and all of their Larger units have fully equipped kitchens. Creekside Lodge is where our children's lesson programs are run and it is right outside their back door. From the Tamarack Club you can walk to Creekside (Beginners area) , Cindy's and Mardi Gras Lifts.

My family will be skiing next week and I do not ski so I was wondering if there was a chalet or somewhere that I can stay while they are skiing. We are not staying over, only coming for the day.

Yes - a couple of chalet's on the hill. The main chalet is large and has a few eating options. Have fun.

We are planning on visiting holiday valley on Wednesday, are there any kids activities for a 12 year old that doesn’t ski? I see that the tubing and coaster do not run on Wednesday, any suggestions are appreciated

There is Bowling at Tim and Bonnie’s, we rent snow shoes through the rental shop. In the Village there are lots of great shops - including Watson’s chocolates- a must do!
If they are interested in learning to ski or snowboard we offer very affordable lessons that include a beginners area lift ticket, beginner rental equipment and the lesson through Creekside Lodge adult learning center (ages 12+)

While Ellicottville and Holiday Valley still are rightfully recognized for their winter/snow sports opportunities, they continue to make strides at developing a 4-seasons drawing.
Specific activities available at the mountain include an 18 hole golf course, mountain biking trails, a mountain coaster (geared more to younger kids, though all ages use it), a very fun and popular tree top series of zip lines and adventure park courses for beginners to super fit climbers/obstacle athletes, hiking trails, a relatively small lake for swimming, fishing , paddle boarding, kayaking (rentals available in town), outdoor series of swimming pools associated with the Tamarack complex (though available to all for a fee), and ski lift rides to top of the mountain to the lake. Opportunities available in the quaint town include strolling and shopping, a number of excellent restaurants, 2 craft breweries, road biking, a NY winery tasting building, bowling alley, and often a theme weekend with mostly adult attractions, such as Blues/Jazz weekend.A calendar of such weekends is posted on their website for the whole year. Nearby attractions include Allegheny State Park and other state parks, Niagara Falls (about 1 1/2 hr drive),Kinzua Dam/park in nearby Pa. Lodging includes some nice B&B options, home and condo rentals, and 3 hotels. One hotel (Wingate) is in town within easy walking distance to the town shops/eateries while the others are at the mountain which is about a mile from town ( The Tamarak and the Holiday Valley Inn) where the mountain attractions reside.Enjoy. (No, I do not work for the mountain or E-vl Chamber of Commerce, though I am a local)
