Lovely Walk in the Fall
Nov 2021
This is a very pretty park anytime of year, but now in the fall one can enjoy the changing leaf colors on a good walk around the pond.

Our Favorite Park
Apr 2019 • Couples
One of the nicest parks in Suffolk County with an amazing variety of wildlife. We love counting the turtles sunbathing. Highest count so far was twenty four!

Delightful!

What a great place for a stroll or a quick run. Picturesque setting. Stable trail surrounding a beautiful pond filled with wildlife like ducks, geese and turtles. There are benches along the way if you choose to sit for a spell and just enjoy the surroundings. You can really get a good workout walk here and it won’t seem boring because you have the sights to see along the way. Give it a try!

Lovely place for a stroll
Jan 2019 • Friends
We come here every so often to just walk around the pond and down some of the trails, it's a nice little outing and my doggies love walking someplace new and exciting! They recently put down some mulch on the trail which is so comfy to walk on. There is a pooh bag dispenser at the entrance by the Post Office which is a nice feature...although I always have my own with me. In the summer I've seen their cooperative farming field, how great is that?! There is a grist mill with a working water wheel...and there is always wildlife sightings every time we go. Very picturesque setting, great for photographers and photography students.Makes you feel like you went away on a little trip to the country without even leaving Long Island!

A Hidden Gem
Dec 2017 • Couples
The Frank Melville Memorial Park was given to the community by Dorothy Melville as a memorial to her husband. It was built by her son, Ward Melville, and dedicated in 1937. The park and its buildings, including the adjacent post office, are included on the National Register of Historic Places.
Take a walk around the beautiful pond in this dog-friendly park ( doggie bags and trash receptacles provided). Every season has its own unique beauty and removes you from everyday stresses. Walk past the red barn onto the dirt path into the woods for a longer walk or just stroll around the paved wheelchair/stroller accessible path over the bridge to get a view of the resident turtles sunning themselves on logs in the pond. On Sunday summer evenings you can bring a chair and picnic dinner to listen to live music of various genres- something to please every taste. Some Saturdays join a birding walk to learn about the local species that make their home in the park.
There is an organic garden which local residents rent an annual plot to harvest their vegetables and flowers. A local master gardener shares his expertise leading workshops in gardening during the spring. All these wonderful programs an many more are supported by the membership and donations to the Friends of the Park. Young and old alike enjoy this treasure!

This is a lovely setting for a walk, picnic, and photos. Many couples go there for their wedding photos. There are ducks and swans on the pond. There is a grist mill,,two pretty bridges, and the Setauket Post Office. Parking is limited however.

Lovely walking Spot
Sep 2016 • Couples
Wonderful walking paths around a bird sanctuary and pond. Historic grist mill and marsh beyond is picturesque and historic. Dogs on leash are welcomed. Bags for dog waste are available. Great photography spot for shots of King fishers, night herons, egrets, swans and geese. Prettiest spot in town!
